View Full Version : Hardware specs of WHT?
AcuNett 02-04-2003, 10:31 PM What are the current hardware specs of the server WHT's hosted on? I believe several months ago it was dual p3 750's, but since then visitors have doubled.
For a forum like this, would MySQL use more ram or HTTPD?
Phrozen 02-04-2003, 11:23 PM Four dual Xeons for the front-end and another dual Xeon server for Mysql. :eek2:

DarktidesNET 02-05-2003, 12:45 AM I'd love to be able to just spare 10 Xeon processors for 1 site... it must be nice to be headsurfer, heh heh.
headsurfer 02-05-2003, 10:30 PM That is the configuration that we will be migrating to.
Currently we run one front end with Dual 1 GHZ P III and three Compaq DL 320s. The back end is a Dual P III 1 GHZ with SCSI. The additional directory pages run off of an additional server.
The new configuration will be 4 Dual XEON SCSI 2 GHZ machines on the front end with a like machine on the SQL data base. A seperate Dual XEON machine will run the directories.

Lirath 02-07-2003, 06:30 AM holy freaking god robert...
thats 12 grand in machine for 1 website...
UH-Matt 02-07-2003, 06:49 AM Its not $12k if your rackshack.
DarktidesNET 02-07-2003, 01:30 PM Besides, I'm sure sponsoring this site and having "Hosted by Rackshack" at the bottom brings them business.
It's not often I see this site down which shows their network is fairly solid.
headsurfer 02-07-2003, 04:01 PM The new system is every bit of $25k and more because I failed to mention the dedicated Foundry Server Iron and secondary UPS for that cabinet. (Yes, we have a UPS on the cabinet plus all of our electrical is backed up by 4 Mitsubishi UPSs plus 2 generators.)
Even the current hardware is over $10k. Those Compaqs were not cheap.
With any luck, we will be migrated to the new hardware by the end of next week.

Acroplex 02-11-2003, 11:34 PM Holy cow, that's solid fast.
dherman76 02-12-2003, 01:52 PM sounds amazing...what are you doing with the old hardware?
jolly 02-15-2003, 01:49 PM How manyhits per day on WHT and data transfer per month?

Wow!
One question - why do the WHT servers need their own UPS? Isnt' the datacenter's UPS/generator power more than enough?
Acroplex 02-15-2003, 08:08 PM In case Timmay attempts to register too many aliases :D
pattox 02-16-2003, 08:15 PM Robert is too lucky, For me, Even being close to a datacenter is like being a little kid in a candy store, :D
Ice_Black 03-24-2003, 05:48 PM lol, headsurfer must be very rich man! He is multi millionair eh? :)
headsurfer 03-24-2003, 09:37 PM When I bought WHT I knew it was commitment and I had an obligation to do the best I could. Improvements are ongoing although I prefer not to discuss our newest additions to come until they are in place.
WHT has been GREAT for our business, even when we did not own it or advertise on it. It was even great for our business before we even knew what WHT was. I know, as well, that it has been great for other web hosting businesses.
The greatest value from WHT comes not from having your ad here or there, but rather community discussions (good and bad) about the industry and specific businesses.
The industry will NEVER be dominated by only a few large hosters although there will always be a few super jumbo hosting companies. It is the "mom and pop" shops that make the industry what it is today by taking the busines "door to door", so to speak.
