I have been a reader for a few months, and joined in order to find a solution for my site, Gaming Age ( http://www.gaming-age.com ). Feel free to read my long story, and request for help http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?threadid=9230.
Anyway, Allan (who is a WHT contributor) and Roseanne at Version12.net got back to me quickly, with a great deal of useful information and an excellent deal. We had quite a bit of cost vs performance issues (us being a site that needs a good machine/bandwidth, but can't afford a real lot). They answered MANY questions, including plenty of those annoying newbie "How do I do.." type questions, before I even made a decision.
After signing up, the server was ordered, setup, and ready to go within a few days. I asked a ton of new questions (and still do on occasion), and always receive a personable, prompt reply and the answer I was looking for. I have learned a lot about Linux sys admin already (I haven't had to deal with running my own server in several years), and the site has been running like a well oiled machine for about a month now.
I still ask some stupid questions, of course, and they have been as patient as I would hope.
Since the Electronic Entertainment Expo is upon us, which is the most traffic-heavy 4 days of the entire year, we are currently getting POUNDED.. mostly in the way of bandwidth. And the site is performing about what I would expect for what we pay (a bit slow, occasional timeouts, but still working :) ).
So I just wanted to publically extend my thanks to this board and to Version12 for all the help I have received.
If this in any way has helped anyone make a decision in choosing hosting, feel free to pass along our referral ID (1024) ;)
