So, we've all heard about subliminal advertising and how it works/doesn't work...what are your views on it? I'm extremely interested to hear your thoughts on why it doesn't work..Does anyone know of any good articles about it on the web?

Here's a link to a good article: http://www.mrfire.com/subliminaladvertising.html

I think it's deceptive and immoral; in fact I believe it's banned in the US for just that reason.

It's not banned. Go see any movie or watch TV. Product placement is a form of subliminal advertising and it must work. It's a multi-billion dollar industry.

As for his Hypnotic Writing thing, I still haven't answered any of those Nigerian money emails.

Product placement is more of a psychological thing like "this actor who gets paid millions of dollars drinks Coke so it must be good"; subliminal advertising just forces you with no resistance.

Nope. Product placement is meant to put the image of the product in your mind and associate it with an enjoyable experience (eg: watching Seinfeld). Normally you don't even notice it consciously but, the image is transmitted, the association is made. That's subliminal.

You are getting sleepy...very sleepy...that's it...night night time...you will send me money...you will send me millions of dollars...you will send TheGAME1264 money, cars, bank accounts, anything...

Did it work?

I saw a similar study to this once. They asked a bunch of people to watch a subliminal ad to see if it did anything to them. Most people had absolutely no urge to do anything whatsoever and the rest had urges that had nothing to do with what the ad intended.

There's not likely to be any good websites about subliminal advertising, because there's nothing to it.

Product placement is something entirely different. The image of the product can be seen, although it may not be the center of action in the movie or TV show.

Hitler used it for propaganda in the Nazi Germany.

Those message suggested to the youngs to get enlisted to the German Army. For what I know, that worked.

Personally, subliminal ad is ok as long as one does not use immoral devices just to entice a viewer or listener.
