I thought that I'd take a proactive approach to fighting spam in my email.

What are the ways to report email spam?

Is there a global database of spammers by URLs, IP's, etc.?

How effective those measures?

The only real way to combat it is if you have blacklisted spammers from your email. There are lots of companies out there that actually keep a database on these, however a lot of the time they also block legitimate ISP's as well.

Until the laws are changed or re-written to combat it, it's almost pointless to try. People that do this just send stuff out of Asia which has no regulations at all.

As a matter of fact, I reported abuse one time of the offender directly to the ISP that carried it. Not only did I not get a response, I ended up getting MORE spam. Seems as even some providers are keeping spam lists now.

If your web host has an abuse email, abuse@yourhost.com, send it that that. Or contact the senders Internet Service Provider and ask them to take further action. Let them know that you have blocked the email address. ;-)

www.spamcop.net is a pretty good place to help in the reporting of things...
