I'm looking not to make any mistakes when starting up my company, and I know that it won't be flawless, although I do want to avoid any mistakes that others might have missed.
What is one thing you would have done differently when you first started up your company? Any mistakes you made then that you now fixed and learnt the hard way?

Mistake I made was getting out of it. I got into hosting in 1997. The prices then, vs now are way different. Got a dedicated server and not a reseller's package. More money in server managment, programming, designing then hosting...
Would have waited till I had more money to invest, not spend so much money on advertisments or done more research on it first.
Everyones different though.

One thing you'll want to make sure you do is ALWAYS evaluate the provider you choose to get your services from. You could probably save yourself $300.
It's good to ask extensive questions and ask for a detailed response.

If I could have done anything different before starting up...
I would have seen a psychiatrist
Nah, but for real I think I did enough research and studying the business plan that most problems that have came up have been extremely small details. I guess the only thing I wish I would have done was start about a year earlier than I did.
I could have jumped right into it, but I spent that 8+ months researching the business. And I think if I did just start off with a reseller plan right away just for the sake of doing it, things would not be nearly as successful as they are today.
hindsight is always 20/20 vision :)

Not screw around with trying to use local colocation, they're just too expensive and not up to par when compared to places in big cities where the real pipes are.
I wouldn't get a reseller account for dialups, too much hassle and after a year I have like 75 customers, wish I didn't have to screw with that at all now but now that half my friends and family are using it I can't just dump it. But frankly the dialup market is saturated all you're gonna get are culls.
