Hi all,

I am looking at these 2 hosts ( http://www.hostony.com and http://www.coldhost.com ) and was wondering if anyone has any experience with them.

They look good in terms of price and feature, but just want to make sure which one is best or if I should or should not go with them.

coldhost.com:

-1GB Storage
-20GB Transfer
-PHP, mySQL, CGI
-250 POP3 Boxes
-15 Day Free Trial
$8.95/Month

Thats oversold or comes with little support. All they have listed on the site is an email address.. dodgy!

Hostany has much more realistic pricing and a support desk. Still cant see any real contact information for the company, but defintely choose these guys over coldhost.

You might want to try and find a host with some contact information - for piece of mind. The above two probably arent even real companies.

I have always been one of those people that have thought a good design can reflect how the business will perform and coldhost's design and content is terrible compare to hostony, and agreeing with Matt coldhost is way overselling their plans

Hostony.com is VERY VERY good. I've been with them for a few months, and the support is amazing, they provide a very personal and professional service.

But im not sure because on coldhost.com theres no where to order the one plan..

I can say one thing seems c0ldhost looks much better than coldhost

ive used coldhost.com and they were very good. very inexpensive for all the space and bandwidth you get. the site mite not be pretty but their service is good

Member lotsofissues (http://www.webhostingtalk.com/member.php?s=&action=getinfo&userid=18192) runs coldhost, so maybe contact him with any relevant questions. They haven't been around very long, so I would be cautious ;)

I understand previous ppl's comments relating design to confidence. But, I am dissappointed with the poster "UH-Matt" for making damaging conclusions about my service as if it were fact.

It seems to me that UH-Matt has a notorious habit of slandering other hosts every chance he gets. I have seen him do this on many posts. It seems very unprofessional to me especially since he runs a web hosting company as well. Rather what he says is true or not he shouldnt be making these comments unless he have proof.

Hi anon,

Alek has entered his second month with me. As of now he is still using the subdomain originally created for the trial period. He has yet to put up his site since the client he was buying for originally hasn't yet confirmed him as their developer.
However alek has done much testing on my server during that period. He has reported great speeds which you can view for yourself on the http://alek.coldhost.com speed tester he installed.

heh... I find out myself that the speed tester doesn't work now. Don't ask me to explain. If you unconvinced about my speed claims I'm sure there are other ways for you to investigate.

i agree with the previous poster earlier regarding the lack of contact info. for coldhost.com - however i give them props for coming in here and defending the company. it would be great if at least they some customers on there raving about coldhost.com

for the coldhost poster - can u please post some contact info i.e. phone # - business addy yaddy yaddy yad.

I'm going into my 1st month with C0ldHost coming the 3rd of March, and I just wanted to say there service has been excellent, any problems I had, which I've had very few were answered and fixed in no time, no serious problems at all. I'm currently on there re-seller plan and it is great, the WHM (Web Host Manger) has a great IFace and very professional look, the CPanels are great also, everything I need, so whatever slander or rumors that are passed around about C0ldHost that are of bad nature are probally false, but everyone is open to there opinion I suppose.

Sure, they're site might not be the prettiest thing you have ever seen, and sure a good layout may help the buisness a bit, but dont judge a book by it's cover, C0ldHost is very cheap and reliable hosting, so dont judge it by how it looks, and dont judge it's service by how low the prices are. Just because the prices are low doesn't mean he dont care about his customers.

Those kinds of comments anger me. If you have only merely coincidence to cite I recommend not loosely dispensing accusations.

UH-matt,
Many other people gave their opinions. Most justified the plain design as a reason for lack of confidence. They did not make absolute statments.
But you stated my service was oversold and undersupported as fact.

My partner put up accurate contact info when he registered our domain. If you want to confirm this, who-is coldhost.com

I just signed up with coldhost.com after seeing this thread just to see what is was like. My DNS is updated and everything is actually okay. I really don't see how they can give me 1 GB of space I will never use anything close to that. I will post a review after my first month or two. Hopefully everything will be okay.

I was with FP and decided to switch to Hostony. I have been with them for a couple of weeks and their support has been great. The transfer took only a few hours after signing up with Hostony. Also, we found a reseller offering a "Crazy Special" that was basically their 'Gold' plan for half price. My experience to date has been nothing short of fantastic and their special was icing on the cake. Note that their special is only available through select resellers as their site no longer offers it.
