With all the low cost providers of domain names, can you really make a whole business out of domain names anymore? They even include cheap or free web-site now!

It would really depend on your business model If you invest an amount of money for licences and expect to sell in large voolumes then there will be a small profit in the long term However, if you are only selling Domain Names then the margin will typically be very low Hence most businesses offer Domain Names along with other products, the complete spread of products makes up the profit stub 10-29-2011, 07:55 PM Nope. You cannot make a good business out of selling any commodity product, unless you have big pockets and big plan*. As an adjunct to a Hosting Business, it might get/hold a few more customers if they can register their domain name with you. But generally you'd make your money on the hosting, not the domain name. * An example of big pockets and a big plan. When Name.com were selling domains at $5.99, they were losing money on each domain. They needed the domain to be renewed with them for another year, just to break even. Of course they would lose some registrations. But this strategy propelled them into bigger leagues. But I don't think there is any domain seller these days which doesn't also have a hosting business as well. There isn't any money to be made out of a commodity product like Domain Registrations. m8internet 10-30-2011, 05:20 AM * An example of big pockets and a big plan. Shakehost-Chris 10-30-2011, 09:36 AM BeZazz is right.. most domain reseller providers you'd have to raise the price higher then most domain providers. I don't see much of profit in it. billaa 12-29-2011, 02:05 PM Domain is becoming more priced from 14th Jan, 2012. So in my opinion it can make some good amount of money. Also you can try selling premium domains, which generally sells at higher price. scottie_h 01-03-2012, 07:57 AM You can earn A LOT by reselling domain names, yes. You only need to know what is to be done. A friend of mine makes a couple thousand dollars monthly as a domain reseller. johnkansas 02-05-2012, 10:07 AM I recently got an offer for my domain from Certified Offer Service. I didnt know whether it was legitimate until i did some research on Google. I am not sure if I can share my site name here as I not really aware of this forum policies. But what I want to stress out here is that looks like domain name reselling is still in action from my experience. More then likely they will want you to get a valuation. Not only will they want a valuation, they will tell you where to get it done. Basically you pay "them" money to valuate your domain and they never purchase your domain. If they are serious about purchasing a domain they will know how much they are willing to pay. You don't need a valuation on a domain especially when your chasing the owner... johnkansas 02-05-2012, 10:58 AM IF they offer you money and your happy with it take it (if you want to sell). You don't need a valuation on a domain especially when your chasing the owner... No No. It was not a valuation stuff. It was a direct offer. Here's how it works with Cerrtified offer service. You get first email with the offer price and you get three options, either you accept or ask for higher price or deny. If you put a higher bid, then there is only one chance for buyer and seller to negotiate with new offer price and it ends if seller denies. If you accept, then you get 7 days to transfer domain to certified offer service. certified offer service already has the money from buyer. Problem is if you are out of USA, the cheque is sent in email and most countries do not accept such cheque payment. It works in USA for sure. Buyer name is never disclosed. |
