View Full Version : Burst.net, Site5.com or Venturesonline.com
Hi all,
I will create new server and I don’t know which better (specially support)
1- burst.net
2- site5.com
3- venturesonline.com
site5.com I think you can’t make order online by credit card.:bawling:
Any one know another companies ?
:D
edude 05-15-2001, 10:23 PM Burstnet have great support, great prices! overall rating: Excellent
eva2000 05-15-2001, 10:39 PM i have a dedicated server with venturesonline.com and the support is A+ :D
they're still moving servers over to their new place at Verio.com's Denver datacenter - i was one of the first to get moved there and well i love it :)
besides venturesonline i'd suggest you look at Site5.com as Matt and guys are helpful as well - i actually looked at Site5 last year way before i went dedicated when they had their support forum

We fully support payment via credit card. You can submit your payment information through an online form which utilizes SSL.
Sorry for the confusion! ;)

Annette 05-15-2001, 10:54 PM I've seen the commentary about Burst, had a box with VO, and now have a box at Site5. Of the three, Site5 gets my nod. They do have a secure form for payment, as Matt pointed out.
i have a server with venturesonline now and their support is a+ like eva2000 said. you shouldnt have any problems with them. i have also delt with site5 in the past and their support was great also. although i have not delt with burst, i'm sure they can't be far off from great.

Where I can make new order online?
i guess you can only order virtual hosting online:

Our new dedicated server ordering system is currently being developed. In the interim, all server orders are being taken manually via email. Payment information can be sent to us securely once your account is active (you will get more information on this when you receive your first invoice). When you're interested in ordering, you can simply email sales@site5.com or even email me directly at mlightner@site5.com.
Hope to hear from you soon!

Matt,
Please see your Email.
I've had nothing but bad luck with their connection since I signed up about 8-months ago and I'm looking for something dedicated now for all of our sites. They lost our vote unfortunately..
I've sent numerous messages to Vince over the past few months and they are unable to get it straightened out .. They seem to be trying but it's not working .. It's off and on all the time..
Nac.net is awful their pipe for us, always dropping packets for us or very high ping ..
Heres a drop from tonight It's averaging about a 66-80% packet loss .. Very few days go by without a problem ..

At any rate, looks like we're leaving them .. PLEASE NOTE, this is their shared web hosting .. But if this is that bad, I'd hate to have the dedicated through NAC.NET from here, I'd be going nutts!
I have to hand it to them for a great package and nice tools, they are nice to work with too.. I just have a bad taste in my mouth right now, getting very frustrated with it all ..
Hostking 05-17-2001, 01:57 AM Give some guys that are not normally talked about here a shot. Seems like there are only like 5 hosts that actually get a chance here.
Trace Route us.
Best Regards,
Ok, make me happy!
I just emailed ya..
Thanks ..
Annette 05-17-2001, 09:27 AM Mike, this is not meant to be offensive, but if you're going to try and drum up business, how about contacting him directly?
Brad, you should pop over to traceroute.org and run those same traces to your site from various places. I encountered one trace (from Yahoo, West Coast) that had a slightly higher hop time than any other trace. Theirs was all of 90ms, which is not too bad at all, with 0% loss. The others I ran ranged from 12ms (Exodus East) to 35-60ms elsewhere. Hop 10 for you, where your problem begins, is actually on C&W, and has nothing to with NAC. It just happens to be where your traffic passes.
Don't feel sorry for those of us who have dedicateds there. We for one have experienced zero downtime, and zero problems. We use our own remote script to monitor service status in addition to one on the first box itself, and neither has reported any problems. We also spent a lot of time tracing to the NOC from around the world and at various times of the day (among other things for due diligence) before deciding to put servers there, to make sure that we would be happy. We are.
As in all things, I understand YMMV. :)
Yes,
This is not a one time thing .. We have done traces from various locations over quite a few months now .. I've had 3-different people do traces, all from the west coast.. All of us have had the same problems. What I see is that Site5 is losing quality from this direction, I use the mediaone or Att, others have DSL and this is a huge audience .. So, for me this is not good . What can I say?
I just checked out the site you gave us to test from other locations at http://www.traceroute.org, thanks ..
I'm seeing problems already from various sites, only checked 8 and 2 so far like iris0.sysci.org and stanford university are timing out..
If you have a dedicated server, what is the server address so I can check it out from these sites ..
Thanks
Annette 05-17-2001, 05:58 PM Kind of strange. I ran a trace from Yahoo out on the Left Coast this morning and got sub-30s. Pretty nice.
Sorry your experience was not what you expected.
jayglate 05-17-2001, 06:04 PM Is your connection coming over RR(road runner)?
jayglate 05-17-2001, 06:19 PM Yeah, mediaone/rr we are having some issues with them at our peer in NYC, we have tickets open with RR already. Can you send me some traceroutes from ATT.
Yes, it's coming over roadrunner - Roadrunner or At&t is huge on the west coast ..
Here is the current trace as I've been typing, it's been working ..

jayglate 05-17-2001, 06:28 PM Nac is working towards resolving this issue, RR isn't being very helpful I am sorry to say, :( but we are harassing their NOC to resolve this.
Annette 05-17-2001, 06:29 PM That handoff from c&w to pnap is something else. :(
Here's what we get from the southeast, with a handoff from uu.net (alter.net) to pnap:

Annette,
You said that you had a dedicated server with site5.com, would you mind posting the link so that I can do a trace from tracert.org, various locations.
Is it hostingmatter.com ?
Oops - I mean hostingmatters.com
Thanks
:)
Annette 05-17-2001, 09:40 PM Try my personal site at technogirl.net or try hostcoalition.org as they are both moved - we're using a rather more anonymous domain over there as the master account and for the hostname on the server itself, and I'd prefer not to publicize that one. In time, we will mirror hostmatters.com the main site to hostingmatters.com over there, but that time is not right now. :)
Yes, I checked your sites out and had the same problems with timeouts, packet loss, etc. from various tracert locations. It seems to be a big problem with CW.NET and PNAP.NET handing off together .. They have a huge problem thats been ongoing now for many months. I've contacted all of them including SITE5 and MEDIAONE AT&T. The only reply from anyone has been from MATT at SITE5, they are bound by their upstream providers and can only wait for results. It all depends on where the trace is coming from, whether you get routed through the HOLE mentioned above. I found if your coming from West coast areas, Ca., Tx, Az. you are more apt to run into the problem, works great from Yahoo but then thats Yahoo were talking about. At any rate, it's a large problem for many users, suprising nothing has been done yet to correct it. I'll bet someones waiting for the line to go in, as they usually say.. Meanwhile, we all suffer the cost ..
Update - Actually got a message back from CW.NET today, they wanted trace results to back it up .. hhaha I had a STACK of em! What a horrible looking stack it is, hope they can fix it! Been over 6 months now off and on like this .. Today is 70% packet loss ..
Annette 05-19-2001, 11:53 PM Maybe C&W can take some of that cash pile they have lying around and fix the problem....
