View Full Version : Looking back, ServInt is the most reliable dedicated provider..
universal2001 02-01-2003, 10:52 PM After all these problems from various providers such as DV2, Dedicatednow/pwebtech, myvirtualnet, fastservers (which I have a server with).. I can seriously say that the best network I've been on so far is ServInt by a long shot..
Just speaking from a network point of view, I've never had any downtimes from this network (100% uptime) and personally, if anyone is looking for Rackspace quality hosting, give these guys a shot!
I hope bobfarmer comes on WHT and has another special..
Network Uptime = A+ (100% uptime in last 3-4months)
Support = B+ (I would of given them A+ but they dont have ICQ/AIM, only email and phone support)
Network Speed = A+ Very fast network, never had a problem.. The network is always incredibly fast.
What I also like about them = Free IPs.. I'm pretty sure the IP addresses are free...
Now, their servers usually cost $300-500/mo, however a few months back they had a special for $199/mo for a P4/Dual P3...
Check them out.. You'll never have a single downtime unlike DV2, pwebtech, etc.. :(
FHDave 02-01-2003, 11:04 PM Good to hear that ServInt works quite well for you. I am not actually surprised with what you said above since I have heard many other people praising ServInt services. They are also inside one of the best (read: reliable) datacenter money can buy, Equinix, with tons of carriers inside.
Jim_UK 02-01-2003, 11:04 PM I totally agree with that and have nothing to add! Their network has been rock solid for ages and has shown 100% for a while now.
I have no problem with no ICQ support because their email/phone support is top class and very fast - no waiting around there.
One note though, I believe they are stopping the free IP's for new orders. This could be wrong now though because it was a month or so ago when Reed told me.
i am a 02-01-2003, 11:30 PM has anyone been with then through their bankruptcy period, and have any information on how that was? (ie, was service disrupted at all?)
BiGWill 02-01-2003, 11:43 PM Yup, their service hasn't been disrupted at all.
I believe they were still bancruptcy while i started out with them (August 02).
Don't know if they'r still or if they emerged?!
But yeah, i totally agree with all of you ... their network and support is really top notch!
Only nice guys and girls :D working there :)
Keep up the good work!
quicksols 02-02-2003, 03:29 AM I have to agree ServInt is one of the MOST realiable network i ve seen with REAL MONITORING. I ve twice my server down and when i call the technician were already working on that. Not only that they reply the email with in 2 minutes or so.... And phone one the second ring at the most.
Only thing is they dont do support for CPANEL as nocster does. However as in GENERAL they have EXCELLENT tech support. I got the special $200 one :) and am very very satisfied with there service :)
SiteKoo 02-02-2003, 04:54 AM That price level should have that service level
AlaskanWolf 02-02-2003, 05:31 AM well to make a slight point, all the providers you mentioned are < $99.00 providers, what do you really expect when you pay $99?
panopticon 02-02-2003, 06:00 AM well to make a slight point, all the providers you mentioned are < $99.00 providers, what do you really expect when you pay $99?
So far my RackShack server has been up for 140 days with what the external monitors say is 99.9% network uptime... only two blips in that time for a minute or so.

Dave, where is ServInt inside Equinix?
Please do tell.
Tom
As far as I know ServInt is located in GNAPS. Is this the same with Equinix?
BiGWill 02-02-2003, 01:04 PM They'r bying transit from GNAPS ...
Afaik they'r in their own Building, which Bob Farmer, or someone else, explained is beeing referred to as the "ServInt Building" ...
I don't think they'r in Equinix either.
best regards,
ckpeter 02-02-2003, 01:06 PM I also have been extremely impressed by ServInt in every respect. From their philosophy (which the owner talked to me about), to the service, it was spotless.
The setup time was actually shorter than the quoted time; emails are consistently replied in 6 hours or less, with tech support's email replied in less than an hour. There is always someone available when I called. They also monitor your server (so many providers claim that, but very few actually do it), and I was surprised to find that my server rebooted, and support told me they rebooted it because it locked up.
I do believe servint is in their own building, not Equinix?
Peter
I think only BobFarmer can clarify this question. I hope he's still around here.
Acronym BOY 02-02-2003, 01:42 PM He is still around, he sent me a PM the other day asking why my mail server was down. (I was playing with it.) Frnakly the fact that he went to look for me on a forum becuase he coudln't email me shows that they try to make sure everything is 100% for their customers.
He doesn't post much (according to search, not since his special offer thread) but he is around. I have a perpetual review thread around here someplace that I need to update, but so far for me it has been nothing but great service.
As for the building, I know its a shared one, not there own, but he tells me it is reffered to as the ServInt building becuase they have been there for a while, but its not all theres. Their address for correspondance has a suite number on it, so that checks out.
Well, kudos for ServInt. The service has been great for me too. I have been with them for just two months and support has been great, though sometimes emails are replied in a few hours, but mustly the response time is in minutes. I rely on email support because phone calls are to expensive from my country.
Just 3 more things i would really like:
1. MSN or ICQ support
2. Better support on Cpanel issues. Sometimes i think they rely almost on the support provided by Cpanel
3. A support forum or helpdesk/ticket system would be nice
This is my first dedicated server on the US and it was hard to decide where to go, i was considering Fastservers, Serverhost, Nocster, etc.
Im very happy that i took the right decision =)
Regards

I might be wrong, but http://visualroute.visualware.com/ (enter servint.net for the traget URL/IP) shows they are inside Equinix Network (VA).

That's a cheap shot, Im paying $250+ per server with dv2.
BobFarmer 02-10-2003, 03:55 PM Hello,
I know I don't come out and post too often, particularly about the company I work for--perhaps I try too hard to look indifferent, and live by the rules here. However, hopefully I can clear up the confusion about ServInt and where we are. By the way, its great to see so many ServInt customers actively participating in the forums here. I love the WHT community, and always enjoy sharing stories, and learning from what others have to offer.
ServInt, founded in 1995, has been at 6861 Elm Street since the very beginning. We've grown and expanded alot in this building, and today there is a 15 foot "ServInt" sign on the side of the building. You can't miss it. No, we don't have ALL the space in the building, but we have been here "forever." So yes, we do have our own datacenter. No, the servers don't live at Equinix. Yes, we do have network facilities out there. Regarding GNAPs, ServInt built a backbone from 1997-2001. In 2001, we sold that network to GNAPs who took it and hugely expanded it. Although the terms of the sale are confidential, you may notice we use the GNAPs network alot, and that the ServInt routers double as GNAPs core routers......
We're still growing and expanding, and are looking to acquire additional space. We're also planning on dropping more M20's out at Equinix and getting various connections within the facility. However, I can't say for sure what will happen or when. Just that for 8 years now (this week is our 8th anniversary!) we've been doing 1 thing, and doing it the best we can. I honestly believe that at this point, our customers have faith in ServInt to make the best decisions to support the customers. Sometimes it is difficult to keep everyone happy, and although we do try, problems will and do happen. However, I like to think we give it 100%.
Regarding support, it is true we don't have AIM/ICQ support at this time. We have -true- 24/7 phone and email support, with technicians on-site the entire time. When we did a beta of AIM/ICQ support about a year ago, we encountered a chronic problem. A customer would send an IM, wait about 3 seconds, then send "OMG YOU ARENT THERE I CANT BELIEVE YOU CALL THIS 24 HOUR SUPPORT." :-) However, had they emailed, it would be a minute or two for a response, and had they called, we'd answer the phone around the 2nd ring. The 2nd problem we encountered was impersonation. Someone would IM saying "This is Bill, I'm not on my regular IM, but please reboot my server." The process of authorizing this required a call either way, and nothing was gained. Although we may provide 24/7 IM/ICQ support in the future, for now, things seem to be working well so long as our NOC continues to quickly respond to emails. We're a changing and growing company, you never know what could happen.
I also have a few notes regarding the bankruptcy. Even in my original promotional thread, I was up-front in discussing this. ServInt filed for Chapter 11 protection on January 26, 2001. We operated through this with no interruption of service, and no loss of quality, support, or expertise. In fact, I believe we've only grown stronger...
Now for the good news! On January 15th 2003, ServInt emerged from Chapter 11. We're a "real company" again, with no ongoing risks, a great balance sheet, and excellent growth. Not only that, but we're one of the extremely rare cases where a company emerged while retaining 100% ownership and 100% management control. So, not only are we out, but we're the same people we've always been, owned by the same person, and run by the same great group of leaders.
I'm always happy to field direct questions, and although I may not post alot, I do read what people have to say. Since I'm out in the opening commenting now, I'd like to thank everyone who supports ServInt, and everyone who says good things about our service. I always make sure our NOC and Engineers see the positive comments, it really keeps them going! Also, now that we've emerged from chapter 11 and are stronger than ever, look for some VERY exciting products coming from ServInt on WHT over the coming months.
Congrats on getting out from Chapter 11, Reed! That's really great news and I always have no doubt in your great service and tech supports. So far, I only use email to contact support and always got a reply within minutes.
Looking forward to more nice deals from you on WHT! :D
Soulfish 02-10-2003, 04:48 PM Great news. Hopefully should be ordering a server from you guys in the next couple of weeks :)
