We are looking for an Admin to help manage our servers.

This is an on-call only basis - for now.

We prefer US/Canada because of the time zone issue. But if you meet the other qualifications we are open to others areas.

A Phone Number is REQUIRED. 95% of all requests will be done via email or ticket or whatever you prefer but some issues must be communicated over the phone and quickly.

You must have a very good working knowledge of:
Plesk (all versions)
Cpanel
MySQL troubleshooting
Bind 8
SMTP Issues
QMail
Perl Troubleshooting
Firewall/Security configuration
General Linux upgrading/upkeep

We are not resellers, we are not kids.. We take the service to our customers very serious and are looking to bring someone on board as an on-call admin and look to the future for full time work.

Thanks

Osha

Look folks, I think we were very clear in what we are looking for.. We are getting emails from people that are having trouble even speaking (typing) english to start with and when we go to their website they have no contact information and most of which are in India.

Yes we did say we would consider other countires other than the U.S. and Canada but if you are going to respond, please try to at least sound interested in the job and not just email us a link to your website.. When we look for work we actually try to sell ourselves not make the buyer do the work for us.

I am not trying to be rude but if you want to make money please put forth some effort. I have deleted all emails that just sent us an email or PM with a link to their website or something that says contact me here....

A little detail about yourself and your skills would be nice.

Thanks

Osha

So your saying you don't want to make the effort to read a detailed resume?

Jason yours was fine.. :D you actually sent the info we were looking for.. what I am saying is we have been flooded with people just saying "email us" or just linking directly to their hosting site.

I am not sure what you are talking about? We are not offering our service as a system Administrator we were looking to hire one.

Anyway thanks for the input

Oh okay I see what you mean.. :)

Yeah I have been surfing around here a little and does seem like a lot of people are wanting everything for free. I think folks forget that you get what you pay for in a lot of cases.

A professional Admin should be making at least $50/hour whether in house or on-call at the very minimum

If everyone keeps lowering their prices to get business we are all in trouble.

Greetings Osha:

"If everyone keeps lowering their prices to get business we are all in trouble."

Your ideas are a breath of fresh air.

Thank you!

WHT is known for people who wants to get it the cheapest they can. Great for resources, but to make the BIG bucks, you might have to look at other places. Sometimes off the net works

not trying to hijack your thread Osha lol

Lets see. Ive tried this 15 hours a week.. 30 a week or 130 a week something along those lines. its either to much or not enough. I mean if people complain about it being to much I know someone who would charge close to 2-4 grand a month plus expenses. but hes also fast and good

I've got to say I've had a great deal of success with WHT and advertising. It's all how you present yourself. If you don't present yourself as someone who knows what they're doing, then you won't get the biz, it's that simple.

WHT is one of the best places in the world to advertise, if you can do it in the correct forum and keep it reasonable. The key is knowing what you're doing. Offering tech services, you'd better be 100% familliar with what you're doing, and act like it. As well, you'd better offer services for a decent price (not too high, not too low), and be patient.

Sales is sales, it's up one month down the next. The key isn't SAYING you know what you're doing, but presenting the fact that you do, and having the clients to back you up.
