View Full Version : need a host mysql php dedicated ip address
I need a host with:
mysql (prefer a web based administrator)
php
dedicated ip address (no virtuals!)
cgi-bin
server side includes
low rates for increased bandwidth (I don't want to pay an extra $10.00 if/when I go over)
raw access logs
telnet
ftp
online support - good community of knowledgable people.
fair contractual terms (refund for unused time on a one year contract for example)
I anticipate needing less than 30 megs of space, 1-2 gigs of monthly transfer but am not sure about that - won't be until I launch
Looking to spend about $20.00 a month NO START UP FEES!!!
I don't mind resellers if they are located with a good company.
I want to be treated as a professional and with respect.
I don't want to move my account in 3 months - 6 months or a year.
If I ask three questions in an email I'd like an answer to all three questions - have you ever noticed how many people only will answer your first?
Any suggestions???

Here is a company that can provide you with all of that for $14.00/month, http://jrc-hosting.com.
marksy 06-05-2000, 08:09 PM Most alabanza based hosts offer all those features.
http://www.netfronts.com/
Annette 06-05-2000, 09:46 PM Many hosts (not just on Alabanza) can offer that. I like most of the control panel features that Alabanza offers for both people who don't know a lot about administering their account(s) and for those who do (one of the reasons we leased a server from them, in fact). Your best bet is to do a search at some of the host directories for the configuration that you need. Once you've got a couple of choices on your list, check out the reviews of those hosts at sites like this and at Deja to see what users think. Good luck.

Annette,
Looked at your service, along with hundred others - wish you had telnet.
What's really important to me is finding a host with an online forum for users so I can ask questions of other users - other users are often more knowledgeable than the host.
Annette 06-05-2000, 11:15 PM Heck, telnet's easy to set up. No biggie if someone has a real need for it.
I've really only run across one host with what looks to be an active online support forum. I'll try to dig it up so you can check it out.

Steve 06-07-2000, 06:46 PM Try PHPwebhosting.com, they have everything you're looking for for $9.99/month.
I have not had any problems with them, but the customer service sounds great! They have a form right in the control panel, so you can get in touch with them easily.
thanks for the suggestions, looking at the forum at interserver was not encouraging.
phphosting - another abanza (sp?) reseller - not sure I want to go that way at present, I'm a control freek.
marksy 06-07-2000, 09:11 PM phpwebhosting is not an alabanza host. They offer unlimited everything so beware. $10 a month does not cover unlimited, ever.
Annette 06-07-2000, 09:30 PM As marksy points out, anyone claiming unlimited (or in this case, unmetered) should be examined closely. Also, their IP block is under Rackspace, not Alabanza.
phpwebhosting has this to say in their FAQ: "Though we do not have any pre-set limits, you will not be allowed to consistently use more then a couple of hundred MB of diskspace and/or over two GB of bandwidth/month. If you use more than this only occasionally, then that is fine." Hardly a good case for their claim (and we'll skip the "than" vs "then" error for now).
No support on their page anywhere. No AUP on their page anywhere. I'd recommend a bit of caution.

Steve 06-08-2000, 12:37 AM I just used PHPwebhosting's customer service for the first time. They responded very quickly, and fixed the problem.
I'm sure you did :)
