Given the number of polls going up regarding decisions made by the moderators, I thought I might as well create yet another poll. I think the question and options are self-explanatory.

Note the problems: 1. No! The moderators are deities and we should accept what they say without question. What about those who don't see the moderators as deities yet believe established rules should be followed? 2. Yes! These fora exist for our benefit, we should be able to set the rules by which they operate. What about those who hope our desires are listened to, yet realize we have no rights to dictate what the rules should be? Many polls, here and on other sites, suffer from the same problem. They do not make allowances for intelligent responses, or those that differ from the poor selections given. The poor use of them here has made me think that the poll feature is not a particularly good one, at least in its present form. Perhaps it should be changed so that proposed polls must first be reviewed by moderators so they can suggest changes before an inadequte poll is posted, wasting time and bandwidth. That would be unecessary if more people used good judgment in creating them. Unfortunately, the ease and rapidity with which they can be created means that no more thought will go into many of them than many of the senseless posts that are made. And, the last week has shown so many polls about all and everything. Some of them make more sense, some less sense (signatures, colors,...) teck 05-15-2001, 04:15 PM If you dont like this forum, leave. It's simple as that. We should have this forum fair and constructive. We don't want something like an AOL chat room where there are tons of different fonts and colors. Everything should be uniformed and standards set. Look at SPF. We should be very professional as well as leaving room for some other things. vizi 05-15-2001, 04:18 PM Hehe. This is the best poll I have seen so far :) CRego3D 05-15-2001, 05:03 PM Huh? I have a better poll "Should we BAN polls ???" :D cperciva 05-15-2001, 06:01 PM For the record, yes I knew that the poll options were overstated: This poll was intended as a parody of the other recent polls mentioned. I think that polls have their place for answering questions; however, I don't think they should be used for answering meta-questions. (ie, polls about webhosting are fine; polls about forum rules, or polls about polls about forum rules, aren't). |
