Do you offer just an email account as a package? Is it advised even if you possibly state it will take 5-7 days to activate it? If you do offer an email only package do you get alot of clients with it? What about fraud?

What about fraud? m0nkeyhost 01-30-2003, 03:05 PM We don't but I know of clients that use their account primarily for email. So just have maybe a splash page and use the account primarily for mail management. I'm not sure about the activation part since it's pretty instantaneous. And as for fraud, how much different would it be with just an email account vs. hosting w/email. As for the ordering of it, you still have to weed out the fake/stolen credit cards. But if it's what someone really wants and you are watching for Spam, then I don't see any problems. cyansmoker 01-30-2003, 03:44 PM Gary, I've asked myself the question many times in the past: how much different indeed? I guess the issue here is that an email-only account may seem more enticing to spammers, as in "Hey this offer is *just* for you!" ;) SoftWareRevue 01-30-2003, 03:49 PM We offer email only. However, it is very small disk space and very little bandwidth. No spammer would be interested. :) ATST 01-30-2003, 03:53 PM We don't advertise "email only" use, but people can just get the smallest hosting pkg, (which is priced about the same as some email services) and use all 25mb for "only email" if they wish. If they need more space and are using less than half their transfer allowance, we increase the disc space allowance for free. People using it primarily for email are likely to be the ones using less transfer, and we know that sometimes, you need more email space. So far, we have detected the fraudulent orders imediately, because we activate accounts manually. dynamicnet 01-30-2003, 03:56 PM Greetings: We do offer two separate email-only packages. We activate within 1 business day. Fraud measures are handled just as for Web site hosting. Thank you. JayC 01-30-2003, 06:22 PM Originally posted by SoftWareRevue We offer email only. Most spammers aren't interested in receiving email or storing anything; they just want an smtp server to send from... right? Still I think it's just as dynamicnet said: you have to take precautions against fraud and spammers whether it's an email-only account or whether it includes hosting. cyansmoker 01-30-2003, 10:50 PM Actually, and ironically, a mail-only account is less dangerous than mail + possibility to run scripts: the worst spammers run scripts directly on the server which, quite often, also is the SMTP server, and they can cause much more damage than by running a script on their own computer and remotely connecting to the SMTP server. |
