For non-business personal website(s), the under $20 kind...........

If I don't need PHP, CGI, MySQL, Frontpage, Access, ASP, or anything fancy, will the host save any license fees or setup time by not adding these features to my new account? For a couple of my domains, I wouldn't even need email.

I can see the benefit of having all plans have the same features (simplicity).

But I might want to make an offer to trade off features I don't need, for some extra storage space or multiple domains (on same acct). And so I'd like to know which features add cost (per new acct) or time (per new acct).

thnx

amalgam, the host doesn't save anything in this trade. The 2 compenents which are sensitive and cost money are the disk space and bandwidth (transfer). I doubt any host will increase your disk quota in return for not letting you use cgi...

I suggest you approach the host with your needs and ask for a custom plan that meets your needs. Let them work it out their way and give you a quote, then you decide.

You can post in the advertising forum, or contact the host directly.

Technically I don't think I'm allowed to post here since this isn't the advertising forum, but I don't think this is technically advertising (if it is just edit out the post mods, sorry).

Anyway, some hosts do provide cheaper plans that don't include SQL or anything advanced, however normally those plans have less web space and transfers as well. Like Wazeh said, the disk space and transfer are the most costly features.

<<MOD NOTE:>>
Brandon, perfectly fine for you to add to *any* discussion as long as you understand the guidelines of what you can't say (ie: no, "I can offer you that!" :D)

If you just need something under $20, chech out www.hostrocket.com and www.aletiahosting.com, both offer good solutions for $10 and have a good rep on this board

Dogma does not benefit from this (read Not Advertising)

thanks for the input. hope I didn't come off as too cheap. :)

I'll probably end up with two separate accounts. One regular (small) and another (medium) with two or three domains mapped to it.

thanks for the help
