Hi,

I have sent 2 e-mails to my current host and I didn't get a single reply in 4 days!! Thing is the monthly payment will be due in a few days, how can I make sure I am not charged if I don't hear from them?

Let me know what I can do to make sure I won't be billed for something I am not using!

Cheers!

I love the way people forget to actually tell us WHO their host is, do you mind enlightening us?

Hi Flywaver,

The first thing you have to make sure of, is that you have followed all proper cancellation procedures. If you have, then the next step to do is to get in touch with your webhost via every possible method of contact, such as FAX, phone, all e-mails, etc... to see if they have received your cancellation inquiry. Sometimes, messages may be lost either during transmission (which happens very, very seldom) but sometimes, it may have been lost at the internal system of the company (i.e. mailserver had a problem around the time of your message delivery).

If you have paid by credit card, debit card, direct debit or any equivalent, you can arrange the cancellation through your credit card company, or bank. This way if the hosting company does charge you for another month, the bank, credit card will refund you if they promised to cancel the payments in the first place.

Else you can do an evil chargeback through your credit card. It will be investigated by your credit card company, and takes about 2-3 months (ish), but you should get your money back as long as you have sufficent evidence that you asked to cancel your account in the first place and that you are not bound by any long term contract.

Hope this helps..

As of now I sent an e-mail to the owner and also filled the cancel account form. We usually get answered quickly from them so this is why it's weird we stopped hearing from them since we started having a problem. :(

I will try other ways to make sure they do get my cancel form.

What is frustrating is that I paid for an add-on that we never got a chance to use and it might be lost money which costed me 150$ CDN for the first month.

Cheers!

is it me or have you still not told us the name of this "company" ?? for all we know you could be lying through your back teeth, why is it so important you keep the name of your host secret ??

this forum is about sharing your experiences, how can we know to steer clear of the company if you wont tell us their friggin name?

Well, seeing that his site appears to be hosted by Wizards, that'd probably explain why he hasn't said which company. I have heard nothing but good things about this host, so i'm sure there's good reason for the problems.

Nope hehe I have 2 accounts, one for an NT box and one for a Linux box. Wizards is my Linux host and it's been great since VDI solved their problems. :)

I highly recommend Wizards Hosting for Linux and PHP/MySQL but unfortunately we have new projects that requires ColdFusion and SQL Server so that is why we needed an NT box. My latest NT host was Vortech Hosting and we got the account cancelation confirmation today.

I am far from lying and I didn't feel it was important to say out loud who the host was at this point. I am glad things got resolved and it's the end of the story. :)

Cheers!

hmm, ok the worlds most pointless thread is when you say you are having a problem, dont tell people who you are having the problem with, then nobody learns anything about a particular host, nobody can tell you if they have had that problem before you, the host cannot respond to the thread with an explanation... purely pointless in my opinion!

Maybe he just wanted advice on ways to try and fix this without wanting to risk posting something that a hot-headed host 'may' take in a "you libeled us, now we gonna sue you" manner?

just playing devils advocate. :D

yeah i suppose, "But" I didnt think people could sue you for stating your feelings?, kinda free speech thing?

I mean it would kinda suck if you got sued for speaking your mind about a company?

Also lets face it, the advantage of the internet is that you can say what you want without any comeback (within reason) NOBODY could find anyone else easily on the internet if they didnt want to be found. totally Anonymous transmission. :D

Sad fact is when it comes to libel cases, it usually doesnt come down to who'se right, but who can afford more legal action. Me, I'm just paranoid. :)

hehe Carlos was indeed worried! :)

As for the calling names, Kaith Sutai-Rustaz is right, I am not the kind to brag about someone if it's not their total fault. I was just trying to get advices, not trying to blow torch someone's name and reputation.

I hope it's all clear now.

Cheers!

Makes sense to me. There was no reason to post the host name here, it was a request for general info on what to do in re: cancellation...ensure the host recieved the request.

I for one tend to skip over the " stay away from such and such a host" they treated me awful" posts.

I dont have time to read non- specific posts......

but thats just me.

No this post was not pointless... I agree mentioning the name would be helpful in giving perfect solution to the situation. But here "Flywaver" intend to get some information in general if he can add something else to his efforts to cancel the account.

I really appreciate that Flywaver action was not like some other people who simply jump into any conclusion and start disgracing any host without any valid reason.

Take an example: I had a problem with my host (although it was my fault too) and came to this board and posted that my host "example" is very bad and they don't respond to me, I can't cancel account, I am trapped and bla bla bla... after 3/4 days everything was resolved...

1. More chances are that I will ignore the message I posted here to avoid shame.... and the host image is ruined without any reason.

2. If I am really nice person, I will come back and write an apology here that it was some confusion, etc... and every thing is fine. this host is fine. I am sorry.

Even in this case this host image is spoiled unnecessarily in front of users, who will not come back to this post in future. Also some one considering this host that time after looking at the post may go with someone else and later when he finds that they are good enough, still won't bother since he has already signed with some.
