Well i had a discussion with some other wht'ers in Hosthideout, they also think we shoud have a vote about color/sigs/avatars. Excesive rules destroy a good messageboard, take a look at gethighforums its OVER moderated. Can't we have a vote if we want the new rules or not? just because a few people haved bugged you 'bc' about the rules, isn't this a democracy?

No. It's not any kind of system of government at all. It's a BBS paid for and maintained by Matt, with assistance in moderating it from volunteers, and we have no vote or say in the matter. Matt and the mods may listen to us and they are under no obligation to consider any of our suggestions.

The rules may still be tweaked before the compliance date so if you have suggestions please e-mail us and we will consider them.
re: signatures.
At present there are less than a dozen signatures that violate the rules out of thousands of members. I have always maintained that this forum is not a place for hosting companies to grab customers (it seems its mainly the hosting companies that are objecting here) there is paid advertisements on other sites for such. Signatures which look more like a webpage with several hyperlink, prices etc.. will be removed on the compliance date. This will prevent hosts posting one/two liners to threads so they can get there multi-coloured quarter web page at the bottom of the post.
You can still do lot with 4 lines and one other colour, maybe two (we'll see). Anyways what's wrong with

Avatars should represent yourself, not the company, which is why the 'no company avatar' rule has been instituted. If you feel strongly about avatars and signatures then do what I did and post a poll about it. We (the mods) are always happy to consider suggestions and implement them if they benefit the membership of the forum in some way.
Isaac (Hostexp), I'm always mindful of over-doing the rules (I know how it feels, having been subjected to over-bearing rules in my own household). However, any forum needs a framework of guidelines to ensure it doesn't spiral out of control.
I have to say that I have been very disappointed with a minority of our posters' attitudes to each other on this forum, and this minority wrecks it for everyone else.
I am also on the verge of making the advertising forums completely moderated (i.e. all posts must be approved by a moderator before being posted), due to the flame wars that have previously taken place, and the flagrant disregard displayed by some posters in there. I was going to institute it tonight but I will hold off for a day or two as it seems to have returned to some form of normality......... For now.
The rules were instituted not only because of suggestions from users, but also because they are also no longer totally relevant. Rules usually require revising every few months or so.
Even a democracy has rules (aka laws), and WHT has an obligation to look after its users and prevent abuse.

Prices, URL's, Packages, 50 Different Colours ruin it !, id limit it to 2-3 lines if it were me !!
Name - Company - URL
Slogan - Witty Comment
Additional Useless Information

BC: I am also on the verge of making the advertising forums completely moderated
Very good idea! I think most of us will be happy when flaming and bashing in the ad forum will stop.
Moderating the advertising forums would be great. Or just make it so people can't reply to the posts there. Too much bashing going around in that forum.
