View Full Version : Bad Bad Bad!
(SH)Saeed 05-13-2001, 10:03 AM Hi all,
Have anyone of you noticed the new Flash banners that HAVE SOUND? What do you think about that? You load a page that you always go to and you know that it does not have any sounds, then suddently a loud annoying sound comes without any warning. BAD BAD BAD!
eva2000 05-13-2001, 10:05 AM hehe my speakers are permanently turned off so i don't hear a thing :D
(SH)Saeed 05-13-2001, 10:10 AM I wish I could do that, but I have headphones and I use it a lot of the time because I'm talking to people over the Internet. And at the same time I'm working, so I go visit websites. I think the banners have reached their most annoying point ever, hehe
klisis 05-13-2001, 12:04 PM I have ALWAYS disliked (Close to Hate) webpage with sound. Now banners with sound? Oh my gosh.

I'm feeling a little guilty, though, because we just launched a client site that has a realplayer soundtrack on the homepage. Of course, you can turn it off, but I tried to talk them out of autoplay... but they had this "cool" hip hop track about their magazine, so they really wanted to hear it!
KDAWebServices 05-14-2001, 04:22 AM MSN have had banners with sound running on UK sites for quite some time, the site that runs them was one I used to visit every day, I stopped once they started running banners with sound.

download this nifty piece of software, trial it, i think you will like it.
This is the single biggest god send i have ever come across!!
It COMPLETELY removes all ad related material
I love it, amazing comes to mind, sorry to praise it so much but its just sooooooo good (no i have no commercial relation to them, lol)
just try it i think you will like its effects!
webfors 05-14-2001, 09:11 AM as long as it's not a midi sound! That's one of my pet peeves and it makes me nuts :D

(SH)Saeed 05-14-2001, 09:15 AM tabernack,
The problem is that they don't play songs. Go to http://nyheter.idg.se/ and you will see a banner on top with a sport car driving by with a loude noise. The worst part is I've been going to that website for a long time and do not expect a loud noise.
PS. I emailed them about it and they said they were going to remove it and try not to show to many banners with sound. :D
webfors 05-14-2001, 09:19 AM Good idea. That would make me crazy as well. I don't have sound on my workstation here at work so I don't get the pleasure of seeing/hearing it for myself. :)
XTStrike 05-14-2001, 09:39 AM all compaq workstations where i work are corporate workstations with built in speaker (tiny speaker)
most of the time i just click on the little speaker icon in the tray and choose "Mute" as "AdSubtract" hasnt been authorised for installation :(
when i want sound i just un mute the internal speaker, a very good idea i think on Compaq's behalf.
I like the feature in AdSubtract where it "Freezes" the animated GIF ads if you have told it to let ads through the filter!
I've got the Compaq Armada Laptop with the docking station at work, even has a DVD player on it. :) I find it extremely annoying when any sound comes up at work, you find yourself quickly scrambling to shut it off. I use headphones now, this way I can listen when I want to and just leave it plugged in. Of course, there's that time when you accidently pull the plug out and scare the hell out of anyone working around you.. BUT, yeah.. :smash:

these are the kinds of sigs we need. I like it :)
Ive thought about the universe before, and then thought about a sign I read in a local pub
"Do yourself a favour, Dont Die Wondering"
its kind of difficult when you have a question that nobody in existence knows the answer to.

ditto :D
Flash sites aren't that bad. Its those darned auto playing midi music sites which tick me off. Your relaxing and browsing the web when all of a suddent the loudest, most anoying midi sound auto starts and you can't figure out which of your 10 IE windows is causing the damn sound! :)
I have my midi auto muted now. I can't stand sites who have midi music!
(SH)Saeed 05-14-2001, 03:02 PM It's not a Flash site. It's a news site with a Flash banner that has sounds. Huge differense!
