View Full Version : Looking for a new monitor
Informity 01-26-2003, 03:16 PM I have just got payment for graphics projects(£250 and will soon get £200 for another one i've almost finished)
Anyway i am stuck with a 1999 17" monitor which really blows. REALLY cheapo, grainy picture etc etc.
I'm looking for a decent 19" CRT monitor for under £200 preferably under £160 but there are so many.
I need:
1600x1200 @ 75Hz or higher and no ultra cheapo non-branded stuff with no warranty
I am looking for anyone who can reccomend monitors or find me a bargain.
UK shopping sites if u need em:

I am asking this of you kind people because i am incredibly busy with various computer tasks(I'm too damn lazy to do my own research :D)
Neo3Net 01-26-2003, 03:25 PM I just bought a NEC 22 Inch and its amazing. http://www.provantage.com/scripts/go.dll/-s/fp_45857
Check it out, its very cheap and has extremely nice resolution.
Informity 01-26-2003, 03:31 PM that is a lot over my budget though :-\
Neo3Net 01-26-2003, 03:41 PM Really? Well you made it sound like you didn't want something cheap. Anyway, sorry I couldn't help. My suggestion is save some more money and buy that monitor.
VH-Robert 01-26-2003, 03:45 PM I got a 18" Flat Panel (Microtek) from Wal-Mart. Not sure if you have Wal-Mart in your area... good price .. $398.
JeremyV 01-26-2003, 03:48 PM I have this awesome 19" Sony Trinitron Multiscan 420GS. It has dual inputs so my server and main desktop are plugged in, and with just a push of a button it switches machines. It looks great. I got it for $200 dollars.. ya know, one of those friend of a friend of a friend deals :D

I stated my budget in the first post of maximum £200(around $320)
I'm sure i could get a good 19" for $320
madmouser 01-26-2003, 04:58 PM Look for something with 85hz refresh rate at the resolution you use. Anything else can give you eyestrain and headaches.
Good brands are Viewsonic (Professional and Graphic series, not the bottom lines), Hitachi, iiyama and Sony/Dell Trinitron.
Best way to get a good monitor at a good price is to buy refurbished.

I have 15" RoverScan's TFT, got it a year ago for $450. I love it.
Miha.
KIA-Joe 01-26-2003, 05:24 PM AOC makes a darn good 19" monitor for a very fair price.

AL-Benjamin 01-26-2003, 06:25 PM i got a 21" sony trinitron. sweet. actually got it from a bankrupcy sale for £20. nothing wrong with it.

Informity 01-26-2003, 06:49 PM I'm looking at these:

http://www.savastore.com/include/info.asp?code=10004168&tid=&pid=44 -- look at the refresh rates, but alas its not flat :(
Phrozen 01-26-2003, 06:55 PM I picked up a 19" Envision EN-910e a couple of weeks ago for $100 after MIR. It's not a flat screen, but it's still a great monitor for the price.
Look for something with 85hz refresh rate at the resolution you use. Anything else can give you eyestrain and headaches.Everyone is different. I've been using 60Hz for years and haven't had any problems. Anything higher than 60Hz causes EMI so I don't have much of a choice anyway.

i'll give you £25 for it :D
Informity 01-26-2003, 07:01 PM How much difference does having flat glass as opposed to curved glass make?

It does look much nicer.
Neo3Net 01-26-2003, 10:52 PM I used to have an OLD monitor. It was a curved screen CRT with 1024x728 resolution at 60mhz.....Designing on it was simply not an option.
