Spaz 05-12-2001, 08:37 PM I am looking into making a personal site and I need to know if anybody knows which hosts has subdomain accounts so I dont have to pay for a domain. Thanks in Advance ksstudio 05-12-2001, 09:37 PM you may take a look at this free host: http://www.freeservers.com the have a long list of subdomains to choose from, all are free including hosting, they just require you to put a banner on your pages. :) AH-Tina 05-12-2001, 10:13 PM All free hosts offer this. Most pay hosts will, if you ask them. --Tina JayC 05-12-2001, 11:10 PM Originally posted by AffordableHost All free hosts offer this. Most pay hosts will, if you ask them. Some pay hosts, though, may be suspicious of your request because subdomains are sometimes preferred by spammers. I'm pointing that out, Spaz, so that if you do talk to a pay host and they ask you a lot of questions, you understand that it's nothing personal. Some have gotten burned. If you decide to contact a pay host, you might mention right up front your reasons for wanting a subdomain as opposed to a domain of your own, for this very reason. Most spammers aren't so forthcoming, so it will be a breath of fresh air. :) TheComputerGuy 05-13-2001, 10:06 AM Why not go get a free domain from domain zero.com I mean it is free, and all you do is put up with a little junk mail that if needs be block them... I used webinfinity.org for the longest time, and I also registered 1800spankme.org with them, they work just like the real thing Spaz 05-14-2001, 08:52 PM Well its for basicly a personal site but I have a board that uses CGI and MySQL which most of the hosts dont offer. So I am willing to pay out some money. Is there a host that has free domain regestration? Maybe that is the way I should go. Webdude 05-14-2001, 10:04 PM Even if there were a host that offers subdomains along with MySQL and CGI, they cant say anything here because it would be considered a self promotion and their post would probably be deleted :D fatman 05-15-2001, 07:44 AM Originally posted by Webdude Even if there were a host that offers subdomains along with MySQL and CGI, they cant say anything here because it would be considered a self promotion and their post would probably be deleted :D Very clever, Webdude. :D (But it's true - he posted his question in a forum where he could not get direct replies. :) ) CRego3D 05-15-2001, 08:15 AM Originally posted by Webdude Even if there were a host that offers subdomains along with MySQL and CGI, they cant say anything here because it would be considered a self promotion and their post would probably be deleted :D you have tooooo much free time ;) Adam_S 05-15-2001, 09:04 AM Even when a paying host don't advertise, if what they do looks good and they are well regarded, just ask. It doesn't hurt, and only costs you a few electrons.. You'll be surprised what some hosts would be willing to do to help.. ;) Adam_S 05-15-2001, 09:06 AM Webdude> It's weird how message signiture get missed out of the "rule".. :) Adam_S 05-15-2001, 09:07 AM Bad typing day.. sorry  XTStrike 05-15-2001, 09:13 AM new rule!!
