View Full Version : WANTED :- Dedicated server

Hi guys,

Looking for a dedicated server. No specific requirements, other than 128Mb+ and 20Gb+, and 100Gb/mo+.

I'm not publishing any kind of prices. I've researched it quite well and know how much I'm looking at roughly, so silly-money quotes will be treated with the respect they deserve.

Looking to host around 50 web sites on this server, with CGI and mild MySQL usage. Nothing mega heavy, so pretty much any processor will do. Don't mind a Celeron or a Duron(if anyone is using them yet!).

Thanks,

Pendelfin

Hi Pendelfin,

FYI... Since you have your email disabled, hosts are unable to send you emails regarding their services. You may want to enable this feature if you are requesting pricing from hosting companies.

You may be interested in Site5's new 3000 Series Dedicated Servers. We have a separate WHT thread on this which will provide you with more information, and a link to our dedicated server plans.

Hi guys and thanks for all your responses.

I am currently considering 2 previous qoutes, neither from this forum.

1. RaQ4, 128mb, 20gb, 150gb bandwidth, $99/mo with $250 setup charge

2. PIII-700, 256mb, 20gb, 100gb, $125/mo with $100 setup charge.

I am not disclosing the provider of the second deal, as it is a personal agreement between friends. I think either of these will satisfy my needs, and must still consider them to be the only contenders due to the prices I have been quoted so far.

Not wishing to be funny or anything, but I have not seen anything in this thread that would make me consider another host. Are these the best prices you guys can do?

if that deal is an agreement between friends, why don`t you just go with that? I don`t think you will find anythin cheaper than that, $1.25/GB not including server price. Also it`s your friend offering that, y not jus go with him?

Hi ezpzhosting,

Well, he is not a friend, but more of a business acquaintance. I was looking to see if anyone could/would offer a smiliar/better deal.

I understand it is a good deal - but so is the one from RackShack. If anything the rackshack one is better, but I would rather have less bandwidth and a stronger processor with more memory, giving me better performance when it is being used for any database queries or intensive CGI scripts.

I was just testing the water really. Wondered if anyone had any specials on at the moment. I'll be ordering this server(wherever it is from) sometime this week.

Do you really need 100+ gigs. How many do you actually use?

I honestly doubt anyone is going to come close to $125/mo for what you're asking for.

I think most hosts wouldn't even break even, but rather actually lose money.

If you are getting 1GB month at $1.25 post the link here so that others can benefit also.

rackshak: <-- how long before they get problems, if they have 3000 servers like they say they have and give each server 150GB month, how long before people start using the 150GB month and start seeing server performance problems like people had with VDI.

They are allowing each user 150GB which is equivalent to 512k bandwidth meaning they must they need to have datalines that can handle 1.5GBs datatransfer, and there website says that they have about 200Mbps.

200MBps vs 1.5GBs which is a system degrade of 750%.

Is it really worth investing. I'm not trying to degrade rackshack, they have done well, but for how long can they keep there service as to the standards it may be at the moment. Thats the Million $$$ question?

Cabal

You really should not be degrating someone elses services to promote yours.

Believe me, people can dig up information on your company as well.

I think if rackshack has 3k servers they are doing just fine.

Just read the forum rules, as it bans stuff like this.

JBIZ718,

I am not promoting my service, as it not available yet, you might want to read my comment, as it ONLY advises the user of a possible future problem.

maybe you want to read my post, first.

The only one I got mildly close to that Pendlefin, was a
P3 700, 256mb ram, 20gb hard drive, 77GB burstable traffic (or 256K dedicated line) for $150 a month.

Trouble is, that webhost isn't taking on any more dedicated servers until ... wait... he re-opens them tomorrow I believe with a new package. :)
