I am presently looking to change hosts, and have decided that you get what you pay for in life.

I am presently looking at Verio's VPS (Virtual Private Server), there Platinum plan, and also at Dells shared server plans.

Does anyone have any comments or experiences with either of these hosting companies, in terms or reliability, support, speed, downtime etc. ?

I really appreciate any help that you are able to offer. Thank you in advance.

From what others have reported, and from I've noticed, Verio is actually a collection of companies and service can vary from one to another.

Dell is pretty new to hosting, a tad under two months according to someone I know who signed up with them a couple of weeks ago. That's not enough time to judge their support. They make pretty decent hardware, but hosting is something else again.

Thanks Duster.

You see what I ideally would like is a dedicated sever that comes with all the pre configured software such as Cgi, SSL, etc.

The reason for this is that I cannot afford yet a full time technician to manage the software such as these programmes.

The VPS plans from Verio seem to come close but it is still a shared server. I want a dedicated server the easy way if you like.

Do you know of anywhere that offers such a service as I have not been able to find any.

Thank you
Steven

Steven,

I believe OLM may be able to provide you what you want. Their website is http://www.olm.net/.

I used many of the companies Verio bought and they were horrible. A Japanese telecomm company is trying to purchase Verio now.
