c0bra 05-11-2001, 06:05 PM WOOOOOOOOW! A free domain name for $180 setup? Sounds like a winning promotion.
(SH)Saeed 05-11-2001, 06:42 PM webtech,
I don't want to be rude or put you down or anything, but that does not sound like a very good deal to me. Specially when there are companies with good roumers that offer more than that for $10/month. Usually when people are looking for cheap host, it is because they do not have $180 to pay, specially for setup.
Just my $0.02
marksy 05-11-2001, 06:45 PM I like good deals like this, especially the incentive the host has to provide decent service after you pay $180. If they put 5000 sites on one server that all paid $180 up front, then I leave they lose $20 bucks...boy, they'd be hurting then.
ksstudio 05-11-2001, 07:16 PM most of the people prefer cheap monthly plan, i got more monthly plans signup compare to yearly plan although i got 25% discount on my yearly plan also.
:)
(SH)Saeed 05-11-2001, 08:40 PM Exactly ksstudio, that is a very good point. I would never sign up with a webhost and pay for a year ahead, not even 2 months. First I would like to try them out to see how good and reliable they are, then if after a few months they seem really good I "might" consider paying 2-3 months ahead to get a discount.
Aloha,
sorry if this sounds bad but just having fun ;)
why would I want to host anyting if I did not have a domain
so to me it s like saying
come to mcDonalds get a free shake when ya purchase the cup to drink it out of ????
maybe a reword would help on all serious side
but again as others have said
$180 setup this is for ???????

I agree with marksy. I made the mistake of signing up with Nomonthlyfees some time back. It had a $200 setup fee and an annual $35 fee. Big mistake. Their support was really very poor. After two weeks of issues not being resolved, I sent in another support ticket - and they wrote back a fiery reply accusing me of spamming them with my support request (which had not been resolved), and threatening to close my account.
When you pay a huge amount up-front with a host, if you get an unscrupulous host, you might regret it later.
determinist 05-12-2001, 03:27 PM I think i've come across almost a dozen hosting companies with the similar plan.. twice on ebay selling the entire company.. sounds like breakeven deal if hosted for 2 or more years, but what if the host can't manage for 2 years, kinda risky.
I think this is where it all start;
www.nomonthlyfees.com
From what i've heard the response is quite good, but just no for me.. anyway just my 2 cent.
Get-Hosted.com 05-12-2001, 07:00 PM nomonthlyfees.com must be doing great, 80% of people who see their site signup! ;)

That's smart. Unfortunately I had to learn it the hard way.:bawling:
Say, Get-Hosted, how did you know 80% sign up with them? Was it published somewhere? (That's quite a big number for a $200 pay-out.)
coolguy23 05-12-2001, 09:53 PM that's like $200 for the first year, and how do i know that you will still be up after a month?;)
Get-Hosted.com 05-13-2001, 03:40 AM http://www.nomonthlyfees.com/nmf80percentgif.gif
That picture is on the main page of their website. That's how I "knew" that 80% of their visitors signed up.
marksy 05-13-2001, 03:04 PM I bet 80% of visitors do signup for hosting - it doesn't say they sign up with them though!

RamboLeer 09-09-2002, 12:10 AM These guys don't know how to host!
Really, how stupid must an administrator be to allow all his/her customers' stats to be public???
I'm very glad I'm leaving them. God, I'm still shocked by the fact that my stats have been public for a period of over 2 months. I can't believe this!!!
wow! this is a veeeeeeeeery old thread! :stickout
Samuel 09-09-2002, 12:48 AM I love this, they punish you for asking for support.... hahaha
http://216.71.44.113/hd/loginc.php
"If you open more than one ticket per issue, all of your Tickets will be deleted. "
You should consider this 'feature' for SAH :D
Samuel 09-09-2002, 01:14 AM hrmm, that's a good idea, Ill bring it up in the next meeting, it;s just difficult to get everyone together, last time we have 5000 employees meet over a bogus memo about drug use, see we condone it, someone put up an anti drug policy and the company about fell into shambles.
