oh no! Flu season got you too eh? Spend some more money and feel all better :D

Anyways...I like phplivesupport. The new version (2) is supposed to intorduce all sorts of new features. Also drawback is the price - $160 each year.

IRC is overlooked.
Rackshack use it very well, as do we.

We use a nice cgi client for our customers:
http://cgiirc.sourceforge.net (yes its free).

http://unitedhosting.co.uk/chat/ <-- to see how we intregrated it.

I think most Providers does not allow IRC on their network. My provide too.

There is a lot of bad stigma attatched to irc, but its pretty easy to use it in a controlled way.

Can you please provide more details on how can it be run in controlled way? What can the best alternative of IRC?

Well to use IRC you dont need to run a server. Choose an existing network (there are a lot of them) and create a room for your support chat, then use something like cgiirc to connect to it - That means you are not running any irc server and can make use of someone elses.

Liveperson

As I have said on this subject before, its not cheap, but it works very well.

I like products like LivePerson and phplivesupport but they are service based.

Anyone knows one that's not service based (you buy it and use it yourself) that's developed with asp, asp.net or ColdFusion?

I would like to find a good one free or <$99 one time fee.

I don't see why the pricing is so high for live support software. It is such a simple concept. I don't need reporting, ability to 'push pages' or any of the 'add ons'. Just basic text chat. Simply, straight forward.

I don't need to use their network - so paying a monthly fee makes no sense to me.

Hello :D

I was actually here doing a search for live support apps, particular Sitechatter, to see what people thought of it.
I couldn't find any views on it at all.

However, in answer to your question, Joe... Sitechatter is
US$10 a month. It looks fine and offers quite a lot of features
(the deluxe version offers a couple more for US$30).
Still, if anyone knows anything about how it actually works in real time, I'd be very keen to hear.

Anyhow, on with my searching.....

[edit: thought i'd add the url: Sitechatter (http://www.sitechatter.com/products/default.php) ]

I havent looked around SiteChatter that much, but it seems alright from what i've seen.

I personally don't like to deal with individual monthly charges. I think the script should be just a 1 Time Fee.

Is it remotely hosted, or using their servers in some way?

cweb

It's a remotely hosted service.... yes.
I have thought that it may be useful to have a remotely hosted service to start with to see how the whole live support thing works on my site and then move to a system placed on my own server - I don't know, still not sure about my thoughts on the matter.

I like LiveResponse personally.. it's pretty similar to the software Rackspace uses. You can see people browsing the site, and pop open a chat window with them, and it has the same features as phplivesupport, it's pretty cool. http://www.kayako.com

I researched the web chat software pretty throughly a couple of months ago. I tried several hosted solutions and also several running on our servers. At that time someone suggested Kayako LiveResponse, I've been using it since I saw it! VERY feature rich compared to the others. It is hosted on your server(s)!

Since we are a customer and thanks to varun, I have just checked out LiveResponse v2 and it is now the best!!!

I hope he doesn't get mad but the link is:

p/w = demo

Test URL:

Before purchasing anything else, I'd at least have a look...

Hey eyckzo,

It's against the rules to be "promo" your own software / company!

And then to bash someone else's product...

What's the deal here???

Anyone who wants a sneak peek should either email or PM me and I will see if I can arrange a demo for you ;)

Just couple of words, LR v2 is very much stable when it comes to handling sessions, it is dialup friendly, has a LOT of unique features, new intuitive UI and couple of other things that I cant say right now.

The release date for LR v2, eSupport v2 etc is 10th Feb.

Regards,

Varun

Will you be including a modernbill plug-in in the new version? I saw a mention of it in the modernbill forum a couple of months back. ;)

I've seen this type of post, a few times. Surely its not that hard to program a live chat program in php, mysql. I think i will have a go over the next week or so. If i do get anywhere i will put up a post. If anyone is interested in helping, pm me
