View Full Version : Problem with email - catch 22`

I have an online form that when filled in, sends an email to acknowledge their enquiry.

If I use my hotmail address, I get acknowledgement instantly. If I use my normal email address I get a delay from 30 minutes to 6 hours. This would make you think there is a problem with my ISP.

However, if I fill an enquiry form on a different website, I get an instant response using my normal email address.

The result: my ISP says it is a problem with the host since that is the only place where there is a delay; my host says there is a problem with my ISP as emails get sent to hotmail, yahoo accounts etc. instantly.

Catch-22

What can I do to diagnose this problem?

Thanks,

Jon

Do you have an email address on that same server? Try changing your address to be a 'local' address and see if you have the same quickness or a delay.

If you are getting it just as quick to your email account on that box, then just setup your email client to check both mailboxes.

Unfortunately arguments between hosts and ISP's usually aren't easy to resolve since both sides will just point at the other until you scream loud enough to make one of them do a ton of work just to prove their innocence.

You should visit http://dnsstuff.com/ and run some checks on both eMail accounts, IP addresses, etc. Should help to diagnose where the problem is.
