RyanD 08-11-2011, 05:35 PM HostingCon's atmosphere has shifted quite a bit, I'm gonna pass on next year. Yes, it has. The industry has "grown up" quite a bit. This year, more so than the past 5 years combined, was very productive for us on the business front. Historically HostingCon had been nothing more than one giant bar crawl. Not to say that does not still exist, not drinking during the event made for a very interesting spectator sport :) We'll be in Boston, look for a booth and party ;) othellotech 08-12-2011, 01:40 PM I'm sad about Boston :( Boston's not that bad of a place ... HostingCon's atmosphere has shifted quite a bit It's "matured" somewhat, as has the industry - a lot of new faces this year, as many previous attendee's no longer in business, having gone t1tsup.com or sold out to larger organisations - the way it's shifting, it'll just be 5 clouds who sell clouds to other clouds next year, all owned by telco's ;) sirius 08-13-2011, 03:29 PM Boston's not that bad of a place ... Boston is a fantastic place for a business conference - I travel there quite frequently. mdrussell 08-13-2011, 03:47 PM +1 for Boston from me. Ada G 08-18-2011, 02:17 AM Hopefully one day it can be arranged in Houston. funkywizard 08-18-2011, 06:31 AM the way it's shifting, it'll just be 5 clouds who sell clouds to other clouds next year, all owned by telco's ;) No joke. It's almost like the "fog" never lifted at the convention (cloud joke, get it?). Everyone pushing cloud, talking about cloud. Cloud is just about charging more money for something that's not that special compared to what came before. No doubt there will be a lot of hype for anything that can drive margins like that, but I don't see it as being very compelling for customers with typical needs. Eleven2 Hosting 08-18-2011, 11:02 AM Hopefully one day it can be arranged in Houston. Cape Dave 09-26-2011, 12:27 AM I am close to Boston, so I am quite happy about it. Boston sucks to drive in. So, taxi from airport to hotel and then walk/subway and you will be happier than driving. And careful, as anywhere, that you avoid the tourist trap restaurants and go to some of the better places. I do not have any names as of yet, but ask a local. Legal Seafoods is always good. It is a great walking city. Most of the roads were originally cow paths. And we all know, cows love to walk :) It looks like they really spruced up the hotel, Sheraton I believe. I am really looking forward to this. Something to help me get thru the winter. Pikespeaklady 09-26-2011, 01:47 PM I like Boston as the venue for 2012. Don't get a rental car, waste of money, the transit system is great. Jump on the bus/subway/train and get wherever you need to go for a few bucks. If you want some awesome Italian, do yourself a favor and hit up Rino's in East Boston. Best Italian food ever. If you want more booze for free than the conference is providing, go on a tour of the Sam Adam's Brewery :D (it's actually a pretty good tour). Bring some good walking shoes, you can walk the entire downtown area pretty easily and see lots of great old architecture. With that said, I despise Boston. Can't stand the place. Plan to have no (or very crappy) cell service, and because your phone is constantly trying to find a signal, your phone is always dead. We're actually staying in Burlington, about 20 miles from the convention center (so about 60 minutes if my memory of Boston rush hour is correct). Got a suite for about one-third the price of the convention special at the Sheraton! Unfortunately the mass transit options from my hotel pretty much don't exist. They require walking a few blocks to catch a bus to the train -- about two hours total. NY and Philly rush hour doesn't faze me, so I'm sure I can handle a little Boston. :D If anyone wants to carpool from the Burlington area, we have room for two - feel free to PM me. Also, you won't be able to stay out past midnight :) floor9 03-29-2012, 03:48 PM Sounds about right, but just wondering--why stay in Burlington? Cost. We paid $89 / night for a suite. Even after considering mass transit, that's still almost one-third the cost of staying at the Sheraton in Boston. Funny story, too: when we first registered, the Sheraton's standard nightly rate on Travelocity, Orbitz, and Expedia was only $189 / night. I can make that $400 go a loooooooong way in advertising. :) Also, you won't be able to stay out past midnight :) True. Looks like it's about 70 minutes, but at least we'll be relaxing on the train and not driving. $14 per person round trip, plus $4 to park. Boston locals, does that sound about right? Beats this http://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash3/529005_3026171173287_1233000088_32274730_1723499148_n.jpg I work down the street from Anderson Station, that's 93 North @ exit 37c at 5 oclock, took about 10 minutes from the start of the onramp to the actual highway. ;) floor9 04-09-2012, 08:38 AM Brandon;8056378']I work down the street from Anderson Station, that's 93 North @ exit 37c at 5 oclock, took about 10 minutes from the start of the onramp to the actual highway. ;) Wow! Our morning commute will be a short hop along 95 East to 93 North to the station, so hopefully it won't be that bad. Looking at that picture, I almost wonder if it would be better to get off 95 at 38 and take back roads to the station. Either way, thanks for cementing my decision to use public transit! :D blong 04-09-2012, 05:14 PM Wow! How's the Lowell line during late nights? Any safety concerns? blong 04-19-2012, 08:11 PM We definitely will. Not really sure I never use Public Transit. I don't hear much on the news though ! Nich 04-24-2012, 01:50 AM How's the Lowell line during late nights? Any safety concerns? Where are you staying again? I take the commuter rail daily into/out of North Station, but not the Lowell line. Safety seems fine, just might see some drunk people if it's the last train out. UH-Matt 04-24-2012, 07:11 PM Anyone else staying at the W? It's my preference over the Sheraton for $50/night more..... I think the organisers did a great job of making it less "salesy" in 2011 over 2010 (and San Diego was a fantastic choice of venue), but it'll always be a bit "cloud" this and "buy-my-stuff" that - it's the nature of the audience. Anyway, who you flying with and when ? Not sure if my flights have been booked yet - ISTR we were looking at Friday-Friday on Virgin. UH-Matt 04-25-2012, 06:22 AM I have booked Virgin: Depart London 15:05 Saturday, 14 Jul, 2012 Depart Boston 19:45 Friday, 20 Jul, 2012 sir jake 04-27-2012, 03:12 AM Guess it's time to book myself in there pretty soon here. What hotel is best in that area? Cape Dave 04-29-2012, 09:38 PM Anyone else staying at the W? It's my preference over the Sheraton for $50/night more..... Just checked that out. Looks like a darn nice hotel. Not surer what my plans are yet but I will be staying somewhere! I have family in Boston, but a hotel may be better. khyattglc 05-15-2012, 11:39 AM Be sure to stop by Great Lakes Computer's booth #704 for some great prizes, product specials, and live product demonstrations.
