I have several hosting accounts with Linuxwebhost. A note to support several days ago has gone unanswered so I was wondering if anyone here knows the answer to this. I'm pretty sure they are on Alabanza servers.

I'd like to password protect an ftp directory. There is a cpanel choice for setting passwords but the pulldown list only shows directories under the www folder.

Thanks for your help,
Dean

When you say 'password protect an FTP directory', do you mean protect it from HTTP access (people can only login with a username and password) or do you mean via FTP access (when someone uses an FTP client they have to login using a username or password)?

The second choice...

They will be using an ftp client (ie. ws_ftp) and I want it to be available only to users with the correct username and password.

Doesn't your control panel give you the option to add a password to an FTP ID?

No,

The only directories I can password protect are under the www folder.

I think your host does not allow you to have multiple ftp accounts. You might want to contact your host and have them set it up for you.
