Click here to visit the auction (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2303252864)

The domain name www.vbulletin.net is up for sale on ebay. It has been registered since October 14th, 2001 and is registered all the way until 2007. I have held onto it for a long time hoping to build it into a great site like vb.org, but no longer have the motivation to do that. The popularity of vbulletin has never been higher (just look at all the posts here @ wht asking about vbulletin & vbulletin skins) especially with vb 3.0 right around the corner. This domain has lots of potential. Like vbulletin.org, this site could easily be made into a community site or commercial site and would be ideal for offering templates or skins to users. Could also be used for reselling licences. For example, you could buy them in bulk for $106 each and sell them for $140 on the site, $20 cheaper than vb.com with a $34 profit per licence. The staff @ vb.com assured me this was ok to do. It gets alot of type-in traffic also, over 30 a day.

No reserve, ends in 5 days (January 27th @ 9:45pm EST). Happy bidding.

Oh and I should mention, the auction doesn't start for another 11 minutes (9:45pm EST). So if you get a blank page, try again in 11 minutes :D

Nice Domain :)

It's a pity I'm not really a vbulletin fan, but otherwise I'd bid on it for sure. Will you sell it via EBAY even if the bidding doesn't get very high? (I may be interested in purchasing it for investment purposes.)

Cheers

Despite getting some pretty high offers for it before, whatever it sells for on ebay is final, no matter what the price is. This domain name WILL be sold in 5 days... ;)

I'm kind of surprised Jelsoft was ok with it, I thought they had a trademark on the name vBulletin, so would have a right to the domain anyway... Oh well.. Good luck!

You could argue the same thing about vbulletin.org - however that seems to be prospering :)

Couldn't VB sue you or even take the domain away from you? They have Vbulletin copyrights now. :stickout:

hmm, and a 0 feedback is winning :/ Maybe I should have put a clause in the description making 5+ feedback only.

vBulletin.org is really run by Jelsoft employees, so Jelsoft has a say in the policy there. Also as I remember Jelsoft hosts vB.com and .org on the same server :D

I really dislike those rules, I only buy things occasionally on ebay so I don't even think have feedback, but I see all these people say you can't buy something because you don't...

No. It's not as black and white as that. Just cause a company owns a trademark to a name doesn't automatically mean they are entitled to the domain name. It's complicated. But lets say they could do it, I don't see any reason why they would, unless of course the person who buys this domain name abuses it or uses it to slander their company in some way. vBulletin supports communities around the web, like vbulletin.org / vbulletintemplates.com / vbulletinhacks.com / vbulletin-france.com ... and the list goes on. So I can't see any reason why all of a sudden they would pursue this name, and even if they did, it's not like they would just get it handed to them. I'm not a lawyer though, but from everything I understand, it's not as black and white as them being able to just take the name.

yeah, but unfortunately there are other people on ebay who ruin the reputation of 0 feedback people because they are stupid. I sold a bike on ebay for my old man and some 1 feedback bid $9200 on it with 5 seconds left. Called me up and we talked and he was sincere about buying it, then the next day he sends me an e-mail and tells me he doesn't want it. Never heard back from it again. The even more hilarious part is, I had to pay $45 for the listing fee and they wouldn't even let me relist it for free, since the reserve was met, yet they deemed he was a NPB!!! Seems like ebay rules need revising.

Had a class mate less than a month ago selling a laptop on ebay, and someone didn't pay, and he emailed ebay and went through some procedure and got the listing fee back. Not sure who he contacted though... :(

WOW... If this domain doesn't go for at least 4 figures, It'll be surprising to me. Regardless of the TLD being .net, this is one that has superb marketing potential.

I am certain with the right owner, and direction of the domain, Jelsoft would happily partner with them. *dreams*

Good Luck with the sale! *Green with envy* :stickout: ;)

Have you offered this domain to Jelsoft? Probably a nice idea to offer them this domain or send them a link to the auction.

I did do this, just out of courtesy. I e-mailed the link to the owners.

I was aware that there was no trademark for vbulletin. They still do have rights though, but as far as them being able to claim the rights to www.vbulletin.net, even with a trademark it would be hard... I can't see them being able to do it without one. But like I mentioned before, they really have no reason to in the first place. This doman name is most likely the last of it's kind. Obviously .com and .org are both taken and will never be available, so .net is the last good tld left ;) Plus, having two very successful sites as .com and .org w/ the same name helps your site grow.
