I was browsing the shared hosting offers forum (Don't ask no tickets, and what else can you do at 2.30am) and clicked on a link to Yupapa's ad.

Reference:

http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=105720

His signature:

*Today's winner is: Myacen* - To receive your present, please give Yupapa a call

Just wondering what I have won?, has anyone else won?

:D ;)

In an eMail from a Mod, I had asked if the "Yuppa sig advertising" was against any WHT rules or policies -- and I was told it was not.

This is why I asked:
Participants may not use the Forum to solicit users for any project or purpose external to the Forum; public, private, or commercial. Most importantly our userbase is not a resource to be "mined" by individuals, groups, or businesses, for profit or not for profit. But, if the person is stating somebody won something (and it does seem a different person wins, each day) and yet, nothing is provided for "winning", then we have clear case of False Advertising.

Is it correct that others have been banned from WHT, for False Advertising?

I think they can make an exception for Yupapa here :D

Why, how is that fair? You bend the rules for one person, well then other people will complain and say why is he special and well it won't be good... ;)

Well first of all, Yupapa is not the normal type of person that comes on these boards. It really wouldn't be the same without him/her...

I don't think it is false advertising at all. Don't people have a sense of humour anymore  :(

I'm not saying to get rid of him/her just stop the false advertising...

Yes some people do have a sense of humour.

you going to ban me now...? You forgot to mention, "- To receive your present, please give insaneraptor a call" which is also included in the Yupapa sig. Advertising.

You see, that was point. About everday the sig. Advertising changes to anothe WHT member, stating to contact Yupapa. Now beside the fact that we're not supposed to make posts telling people to contact us (unless in the proper Forum of course), some people are trying to contact Yupapa to receive their present, has anyone received one?

One does not, make a post of any kind stating to contact them for "something", only to be told, "Oh, I was only joking." That's someone's idea of humour? Give me a break.

Mind you, we have yet to hear from Yupapa themselve's and/or a Mod, so at this point, the whole situation is either against the Forum policy or in poor taste -- or both!

Is it False advertising .. that is the question... or is it Misleading ... or is it a Con .. or are we all just Cullable

Lets look at the facts, you were told that you were the winner, however there doesn't seem to be any prize attached to the Honour. Now while it appears that no mention of a prize was put by the perpetrator, as it is common practice to recieve a prize, and the mere mention of "Winner" implies there is a reward of some description.

The next step would be to  ask, no demand your prize.

Now once you don't receive your prize we can then take to necasarry steps.

1. Complain to the better webhosting bureau

2. Nuke his/her data centre

3. Take our dummy and go home to Mummy

4. Buy him out.

5. Flame him/her/them

Well first of all, Yupapa is not the normal type of person that comes on these boards. It really wouldn't be the same without him/her...

Why .. I have been a member for the past 17 Months and I have only seen his name Yupapa mentioned a handful of times and I have only ever read 2 or maybe 3 of his posts. The only thing different I can see is his name.

Well actually it says:

*Today's winner is: ikiwi.net* - To receive your present, please give Yupapa a call

He/she does imply that he/she is giving away a prize...:D

Why does everything here get taken so seriously, namely something thats all fun and games. I'm sure Myacen did not want this thread to head in this direction.

Lighten up, have some fun!

Flitcher I'm not sure about the others but I definately was being "light hearted" surely when I said hings like  Complain to the better webhosting bureau" there is no "better wehosting bureau" mores the pity.
However to be serious for just a moment underneath this "just for fun" thread there does seem like a problem exists and perhaps we should ask yapapa about it.    What is his url please

I have just emailed yupapa asking if he can enter this thread and clear up any misunderstanding.

As he/she is a webhost and all webhosts boast 24/7 support I'm sure they will be he momentarily. :rolleye:

If the mods think it is unacceptable, they can change or remove it.

Well obviously people do read it and some take it seriously. For all concerned the honorable thing to do would be to remove it and then people who don't know you won't be misled.

Funny how you were being sarcastic with the 24/7 support comment by using the rolling eyes emoticon, yet yupapa replied within 15 minutes.

Sarcastic no never not me ..don't even know what it means.

Yeh however I didn't say I was any good at it. Truth known I'm hopeless.

Actually I had never seen yapapa's signature prior to this thread, what I did take seriously was some of the comments in this thread. what's the saying   "Half in jest whole in earnest" when members start asking moderators about possible breaches of rules that sounds like a potential problem.

However a good point has been made ... what one person takes as a joke another takes as serious and if your advertising your business then I think that it is important that your comments, signature etc can't be misunderstood
