I have some questions:

- what's your hardware replacement guarantee?
- after 6 months, will you replace damaged hardware for free?

We will take care of everything when it comes to hardware when we have control of the server. Once the server is out of our hands it is up to you to deal with the manufacturers with any problems. We are not going to be responsible for a server that is not in our direct control.

So after 6 months when the server belongs to the customer but is collocated with you for $89/month it will become the customer's responsibility to cover the cost of hardware replacements if something goes bust, correct?

I think that's the catch then. I'm afraid problems will start to happen after 6 months and I'd end up paying more to replace the hardware.

Is there any better option? (to still get the hardware guaranteed after 6 months)

If the server is in our control then we will take care of all hardware, that includes even after the initial 6 months and as long as the server is in our data center.

This is all a manufaturer warranty, since we will always have spare parts in stock we will swap anything out and we will deal with the manufacturer ourselves.

It is when you have control of the machine when you will have to deal with the manufacturer on your own.

We are giving you a quality machine, we arent giving you generic hardware. The chassis and motherboard is all ASUS, RAM Kingston and HD is Maxtor.

Will there be a bad one in the bunch, maybe but you will know if its a bad machine or motherboard or HD right away and we will take care of that for you.

If a server is working fine for 6 months more times than not its a good machine and you will have minimal problems.

Its not like you arent getting a warranty after the server is yours, all it means is that you have to call the manufacturer yourself.

After 6 months and I decide to let the server stay at your place as usual, so will you still take care of it if there's a hardware failure?

BTW, does this server support IDE RAID? How much to setup RAID on this server with an extra 40 GB HD?

Havent had any network trouble at all and you are getting 8ms traceroutes. High pings here and there all depends on network traffic between you and us, that could be happening anywhere.

How much for extra RAM and after those 6 months if we ship any additional parts to you such as RAM or HDs will you install it for a nominal charge or must we pay you directly for those addons?

If you want to ship us hardware we will gladly install it for you. We charge $75/hr to do anything, 30 minute minimum. So of course anything you need us to add on is basically going to be less than a 30 minute job.

For what you're getting the setup fees are reasonable, and you'll be saving more over the long run versus servers with higher monthly fees and lower setup fees. I'm definitely picking up a few of these machines.

When it comes to IPs, you do need to justify the ones you are asking for.

We give free reboots as long as they are not excessive

We are not asking you to sign a contract so there is no guarantee that you will pay us and not cancel the service, so we cannot stretch out the set up.

In case anybody cares about speeds, about 600k/sec from Atrivo (wworks within eXchange colo in SF, CA) and 1000k/sec from ThePlanet.

I know someone out there can get higher than that, we hit over 20Mbps downloading from AOL from here.

What're the current bandwidth providers? I've seen Telia and Level3 in some of my traceroutes, but so far no sign of Global Crossing or any others.

Those are very good speeds for my servers, I'll be ordering a couple of yours in the next few days.

I go via globalcrossing from here in San Diego over Road Runner broadband.

There is always a fine line of free support and paid support, we try to do what we can but basically you break it you pay for it. You need us to fix the server because you did something that made it not work we will charge you for it ($75/hr). If you need some help we can point you in the right direction and do our best in getting you past any bumps in the road.
