Is hostingCon at the east or west end of the SD Conference center?

We generally like to have quick access to the hotel room - and as the event is once again not within a resort, with hotel attached, I'm actually looking at the Hilton Gas Lamp instead of the bay front Hilton.

That group rate of $229 for the hotel including internet is MORE than the published rate for the room of $207 + $13.95 for internet (24 hours) - so unless I am missing something, the group rate is a little pricey...

I am sure HostingCon/iNet gets a big chunk of that group rate.
I got a room at the W (top of the line hotel) and I know allot of others are staying there as well, it was only about $110 a night, which is insane for the W hotel.

The San Diego Bayfront Hilton is the closest hotel to our conference space on the south east corner of the convention center. You walk out of the hotel into the convention center and HostingCon will be right there.

Attendees get free wifi access in the hotel as well as 50% off a fitness pass. The Hilton Bayfront is also the location of the closing reception.

Also, we don't get huge chunk of the rooms blocks sold. We negotiate the rate for the benefit of the attendees so everyone is close to the hotel and convention center.

This was my experience also when I booked a few months ago. I booked my flight and hotel through Expedia, and it was cheaper to book the Bayfront through Expedia than to use the group rate.

This was surprising to me. At most conferences I attend, either the group rate is lower than the rate on other sites, or the hotel isn't available for booking on other sites during the conference dates (i.e. it's fully reserved for the conference).

The rate at the hotel "may" be cheaper than the group rate. But as the hotel fills up the rate at the hotel will go up as well. The group rate is guaranteed for a period of time much longer and closer to the conference time.
Of course you can always find something cheaper, but when the conference books a group rate they are doing it as a benefit to the conference attendees so you know the maximum price.

Yep, we're at the W too - think we got in under that same rate. I doubt they're still running that same special still. Will say that I stayed at W in Chicago and will never stay anywhere else again given the opportunity to stay at a W.

Wow, I'm jealous - I love the W (never stayed at the one in San Diego though). If I had seen that rate I would have jumped at it.

I ended up booking at Hotel Indigo - got a King Bed Executive View room for $169/night inc tax so I was happy with that (it's about $100/night less than the rate if booked today).

I see the W is 116 at the moment - but it's about 1.5 miles from the conference center.

The Hilton Bayfront has gone up - the group rate is now cheaper than the rate you can get direct from the Hilton website - but I am still loathed to pay $229 for a bed - that's a lot of $$$ for a facility that is barely used.

Oh - 50% discount on fitness passes? Have looked at the average hostingcon attendee??? lol - cmon - what a laugh... fitness passes...

I'm seriously considering the W - at $116 vs $229 - I have my taxis covered and a good few beers..

thx for that - we booked the hilton gaslamp in the end - it's close to all the decent bars in San Diego! ;) But it was a tough decision - the price for the W was/is a steal...

I've been to HC enough to know that not a lot of people are interested in fitness.
