View Full Version : What is a good Webmail program?
awiekupo 01-21-2003, 11:26 AM I've just installed Red hat 8.0 with all the stuff (LAMP) and now my employer wanted me to change the current Neomail with something better that support pop3. Anyone have a good idea on any good Webmail program that support pop3 and run perfectly on Red hat 8.0? (it would be much better if you can send me a link for article that stated about setting & customizing the particular Webmail program)

UH-Matt 01-21-2003, 04:17 PM yep - http://www.squirrelmail.org - exactly what you need.
cortices 01-21-2003, 04:43 PM I'll throw my opinion in. I personally think IMP is much, much better than SquirrelMail.
mlovick 01-21-2003, 05:59 PM NEOMAIL is pretty good.
rrsnider 01-21-2003, 11:17 PM I currently use Squirrelmail. However, I have a problem where anytime I reply to a message, I get a timeout (even thought the message is sent). If I can get this fixed, I would say it is an excellent product. If I can't, I will try something else.
pyoor 01-21-2003, 11:52 PM webmail sucks period... If you absolutely have to have it either SquirrelMail or IMP will suffice (the people I admin for seem to be content with SquirrelMail). Look around... dont take peoples opinions. If you went off strangers opinions you'd probably be running Win2k server and shelling out thousands of dollars in software licenses...

What type of timeout?
Thanks.

rrsnider 01-22-2003, 02:58 PM In response to Choon's question...
This is a cut and paste of the timeout message I get everytime I reply to a message (this particular message was a total of 100 characters with no attachments)...
Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 30 seconds exceeded in /home/sites/home/web/mail/functions/imap_general.php on line 48
I realize I can increase my php timeout to something greater than 30 seconds. However, I do not think that will accomplish anything other than waiting longer to timeout. The strange thing is that the message is sent successfully, even though I receive the timeout message.
Because of this, I have not opened up Squirrelmail to my customers yet. Anyone else encountered and solved this problem?
jahsh 01-22-2003, 04:12 PM have you at least tried to raise the php timeout rate in your php.ini file. It is at least worth a try. good luck

I have set my SquirrelMail for sending mails to sendmail instead of using the SMTP under Server Setting I guess. You can increase the php max_execution timeout limit from 30 to whatever in .htaccess file depending on your apache configuration and likewise you might want to consider about increasing the php memory limit also as default is 8M.
Just my thoughts.
Thanks.
