View Full Version : This computer is driving me crazy!!!
Centralized 01-21-2003, 11:00 AM Morning Fellow WHT'ers!
I have a SuperMicro case with a 300W ATX power supply. For some odd reason, I plug in the power cord into the power supply, I connect the ATX connector from the PowerSupply onto the motherboard. I then plug in the case PowerSW onto the motherboard pins and still no go.
Is there some type of way I can troubleshoot this?
It is a SOYO SY-7VCA-E motherboard.
Any advice is greatly appreciated.
davidb 01-21-2003, 11:05 AM Does your mb have a led light for when power is connected(and switched on) but will stay on when the computer itself is not running? Do any fans come on such as the power supply fan? I had my power supply die on me 2 weeks ago. I still got the LED on the mb saying power was there, but it wouldnt turn on. I opened up the power supply to see part of it fried. I would check on any lights comming on, and if it still wont go, it could be the power, check for damage on the mb too. Also are you sure you the power switch on the mb is connected correctly? if you think the switch might be busted, you can jump the mb with a screw driver by touching the two pins that the switch connects too.
Centralized 01-21-2003, 12:08 PM The motherboard does not indicate any light at all. The power supply fan does not come on either. The motherboard and case are both new.

davidb 01-21-2003, 12:11 PM did you double check all your connections?
Centralized 01-21-2003, 12:11 PM Another thing...
The power supply does not have an I/O switch to regulate the power.
Centralized 01-21-2003, 12:12 PM Power cord to power supply....check
ATX connector from power supply to motherboard...check
I do know what you mean by the motherboard LED. This is my first SOYO machine, I always build Intel, so I am unsure as to how to diagnose this one.
David, I appreciate your help.
davidb 01-21-2003, 12:18 PM what about the power button cord, is that on, did you try hitting the two with your screw driver(by hitting, I mean connecting), the quick start guide should show you which two these are. And I saw no light either in the manual
davidb 01-21-2003, 12:22 PM this is a pic of what should be the power jumpers
Centralized 01-21-2003, 12:23 PM David, I am unclear as to what you are referring to. Are you talking about the PowerSW?
Centralized 01-21-2003, 12:26 PM I understand about the power jumpers. What would you like me try to do with them? You can contact me via AIM if you'd like. AIM name is JBIZSTOCK.
davidb 01-21-2003, 12:27 PM Check page 4 of your quick start manual, its labled PWRBT in the bottom righthand corner of the picture
Centralized 01-21-2003, 12:28 PM Roger that. Standby.
Centralized 01-21-2003, 01:02 PM I actually plugged in another motherboard that I had and still no power on. Does this mean it must be the case?
davidb 01-21-2003, 01:07 PM it looks like it could be the power supply, do you have another one you could use and test?
dbbrock1 01-21-2003, 02:03 PM It looks like you have to many devices on one ide cable. Same thing happened to me.
Centralized 01-21-2003, 07:16 PM Its the power supply. RMA'ed the case and bought a different one. Thanks for all your help!
