View Full Version : command line color preferences?

What is everyone's favorite command line preference as far as background and foreground color?

For me, it's a dark blue background with off-white foreground for characters. I use a VT100 emulation mode, so no colors.

I am thinking of switching to an ANSI mode for color, but am curious what others find as the best combo for working in the command line 8-10 hours a day (colors, emulations, settings, etc...). :)

I guess no one uses the command line anymore...:D
or no more bash elitists.

Leaning towards ANSI black background with red prompt for root, green for other users... (seven+ years of same screen with no color or shading getting old.)

Prompt to read:
server_name(username):dir$

white text on black. Worked for DOS and works well on Linux :)

Yeah, white/grey text is nice on black....any prefs for prompt coloring to easily distinguish who you're logged in as, differentiating the prompt from 10+ scroll screens of grepped logfiles, etc...?

Nope - I really just use black and white.. I'll admit I probably *should* color things a bit, but I'm used to my old-man ways :)
