I am currently looking into moving my domain from UK2.net to oneandone.co.uk but UK2 says it can sometimes take 7-14 days to update the 'tag'. Does this tag have to be updated for my web site to work on the new host or will it work even with the old tag?
I need to know because I have only about a week until my webspace needs renewal and I don't fancy paying another £40.
Cheers

They are talking about the Domain Name Server listing on your domain name. In simple terms, the DNS listing tells people where your domain is hosted (don't beat me up on this you techies, its just a simple way to explain it to him).
Updating DNS information on your domain usually takes 24 hours here in the US. I'm assuming you have a .uk domain, but 1-2 weeks is a very long time. Maybe a Uk host on this board can tell us how long it really takes.

7-14 Days, LMAO.
If it is a .uk domain then it takes about 30 seconds to notify Nominet of the change, then it takes Nominet about 1-5 minutes to acknowledge it, then it takes about 4-12 hours for the change to appear in the database then, anywhere up to a week for the change to propagate to all ISPs, but it usually takes 24 hours to take effect on most ISPs.

hmm..., it all comes down to "LAZY GITS".
You should make sure you get a host that can do VERY FAST DNS changes or you will have major problems in future!
