Our box came with 256Mb RAM and we just added another 512Mb. I just checked the usage stats and 99% of the physical memory is being used, and only 5 pages per second. The swap is being used less, but this is a quite time on the server at the moment.
How much RAM do these boxes need? Or is there some other reason that 99% of the RAM is in use.
Thanks
Bob

it's a unix thing. all ram is 'used' to cache frequently accessed data. it's not harming your system in any way to operate with little 'free' ram...
use "free" command and look at how much is in the 'buffer' and 'cache' sections.
If you're not swapping to disk, you're fine... active monitor will send you an alert if the server is truly running low on memory.

What type of RAM did you add?
I want to upgrade my RAM too.

Thanks for the reply. The box is leased from our ISP so they installed the RAM, I think they got it from Sun. I have seen a post somewhere advising against using cheap RAM on these, and that the Sun approved chips should be used.

I tried 256 MB Kingston ValueRAM PC133 ECC registered low profile.
Works without problems. :)

Just querying: can you use mixed memory sizes in a Raq550?
I always thought they had to match in size.
Pardon my ignorance

Mine has 1x 256 and 1 x 512.

SUN Cobalt shipped the 550's with Micron Memory.
Here is the Link to the exact same Micron memory available from Crucial. I have ordered and used both the 512mb and 1gb size modules in the 60+ Raq550's we have at Raq4less (http://www.Raq4less.com) without any problems.
Both the 1.0GHz and 1.26GHz Raq550 models use the same memory.

CCNST, someone from Sun told me any type of ECC RAM will work but it MUST be ECC RAM.
