Hi guys,

Just curious, what would be a good firewall to use for mostly a name based virtual host. I was thinking about using checkpoint firewall. Anyone using checkpoint firewall ? I know checkpoint is probably one of the best software based firewall out there next to PIX, but I don't know if it's a good one to use with name based virtual host.

Any recommendation ?

I use Bastille in my house, I never use it in a VS.

I have ran checkpoint before and it kicks serious ass. But it is not the cheapest available. If you have 1 server and not a bigger network, just use ipchains/iptables if this is a unix server. If it is NT/win2k, good luck, ZoneAlarmPro is mediocre, black ice is ok.

Two freebies that are A+ are Freesco http://www.freesco.org and SmoothWall http://www.smoothwall.org

Freesco packs a lot of punch and can run off a single floppy. With SmoothWall you download an ISO file and have to burn a CD and install from that. Both have browser-based admin tools.
