Anyone elses sites been running slow over the past few days? Mine has been taking like 45 seconds to load pages and before it was in 8 to 10 seconds.

Hi, I am operating the site www.esnipe.com where we must connect to ebay within 1 second... and we have not seen any slowdown in the past few days... (We are hosting www.esnipe-west.com at Weinbar)

I think the problem could be on your server? it is always possible you are on a bad part of the Weinbar LAN, but I haven't seen any evidence of that?

What page do you have that takes so many seconds? do you have a link, IP address you want people to try for you?

For what its worth - I'm currently dialed in to the bbnplanet backbone at 45kbps. I just downloaded your home page at 6.1kB/s using Opera 5.10 browser. My modem receive light was on solidly. No pauses or breaks in the transmission.

(5:20 EDT, sync'd to NIST)

I am on the same network as you, my server has no hops to the one you referenced (216.139.227.110)

Are you on a SHARED server?

I connect to it from both of my providers here in Seattle (Sprint and Quest) and had no delay. The page is a little slow to load, I notice you have a Java applet... which can sometimes slow things down.

I think the problem may be on your client end, no reason I can see that Weinbar is causing this delay.

P.S. I notice the HTML on your front page has a lot of white space, you might want to consider removing it to save bandwidth... front page is very important...

You have lots of tabs and spaces in your HTML. Your root HTML file (index.shml) is 52,233 bytes... that is JUST the HTML not the graphics or anything else.

That is pretty heavy for a homepage.

If you removed all the tabs and spaces and blank lines, you could cut this down by at least 5K from what I see...

It might be easier for you to work on the file with all that extra whitespace, but when your page gets lot of hits, that is 10% or more wasted bandwidth per hit. And that also means another 1 or 2 seconds for modem users before anything appears.

I noticed your page was slow to load, so I spent 2 minutes looking at the source...

loads very fast from Toronto Canada. If only Wein could have cut the set up fee for me :D

Matrix, your site loaded in like 3 seconds for me and I'm in Sweden.

I think my DSL was just running slow.

I love it when people on DSL complain, DSL is hopeless at 24/7 service being a relatively new technology.

I downloaded your page from a T3 with General Motors in about 2-3 seconds.

Im quite impressed with WeinBar at the moment, some hickups during setup (through no fault of WeinBar), but other than that service has been 100% :D

Actually not really complaing about my DSL as I wouldn't trade it for anything. It blows 56k modems away. Never have tried cable though and can't afford a T1.

I used to have Direct Duo which is a small satellite for connecting to the net. It's faster than a 56k but the DSL is still faster than that and a little cheaper.

There seems to be problems with DSL everywhere.

Here in Chennai, India, Im using a cable connection and it is generally more reliable and faster than the local DSL service.
Costs are much lower too. I pay around US$ 23 per month for unlimited usage vs DSL which costs 50-60
per month for one of our clients.
Speeds vary but im getting avg of 60-80 kbps with peaks of 1.15 mbps.

Here in Sweden we have 10mbit for $20/month. My cousin gets about 650kbytes/sec when he downloads. I get about 230kbytes/sec, but it is only because they were out of fiber and used copper instead. So mine is free until they upgrade to fiber :)

Some of my friends have DSL for about $25/month and they get about 60kbytes/sec. From what I was reading in the computer news, these companies are going to raise their prices. They had low prices to get customers and now it's time to make money off of it.

Im due to get a cable modem shortly, the local company around here dont seem to be admitting too much on the rollout dates etc...

Mike (the big cheese of WHT) has pointed me to a couple of sites on my area, one of which I meant to go to again for another visit last night, but was too busy on the P155.

all i want is something more than 56k :-(
