I always wondered how you run a company by giving your products away.

Now I know:

YOU CAN'T :puke:

This is really sad news.
I had tried it once and was quite happy with it.
Can't the open source community still revive the product MandrakeLinux.
Personally I am stuck with redhat for over 5 years and don't feel like changing my desktop. But I know there is a huge base which uses Mandrake.

Have a nice day

Amar

Try posting when you know the facts.

They are not filing for bankruptcy, they are filing for the U.S. equivilent of Chapter 11.
They are doing this to get bad partnerships/deals off of their back.

Very similar as to what DV2 did.

Damn, dude, I quoted the CNET article. Follow the link and you'll see :
Mandrake Linux files for bankruptcy

I didn't say is was fact or fiction. I just quoted the headline, once again:

Mandrake Linux files for bankruptcy

The headline is here if you need the link again.

False alarm,. throwing in the towel is not filing for bankruptcy.

It's selling, closing the doors which they are not doing.

They are reorganizing. Common in failing business models, failing ventures.

Yeah, maybe premature just yet. I'll bookmark this thread and in six months re-visit to say:

Whoa Dude, Mandrake all said like "We're Outa Here."
And you'll be all like "NO-WAY!"
And I'll be all like "YEAH-WAY!"
And You'll be all like "THAT SUX!"
and Bill Gates will be all like "NYAH-NYAH TOLD YOU SO."
And Monkey Ballmer will be all like "WOOOOWOOOOWOOOOWOOOWOOOWOOOWOOO!!!!"
And running around and stuff.

And Mandrake will be all like "Chill, Dude"

RedHat must be having a party. Which large corporations would now switch to Mandrake. They are dead.

What a shame, it was my first Linux OS. It was good for starting out.

Mandrake is not dead. Someone else will pick up on the project. They will still be releasing the OS.

I personally like about 4 or 5 other linux dists over Mandrake anyway, but it is still pretty cool (though I'd not loose sleep over it either way).

Mandrake is alright... it has an almost idiot-proof install similar to RedHats. The problem with these distributions is that even though any idiot can use them, if something goes wrong that poor newb is stuck. I honestly dont believe Linux or *BSD should be used as an everyday workstation unless you REALLY know your stuff. I have been using Linux for the past 7 or so years and FreeBSD for the past 2. My main workstation I tri-boot WindowsXP, RedHat8, and FreeBSD 4.7 but 90% of the time I'm in Windows (what can I say? I love my games and can't live without Rhino3D!) because it has all of the software I require. If you are admining a server and maintain it 100% through a web appliance I think you should seek help. If you dont know how to do things from the command line what are you going to do if your control panel wont load one day 'cause its process died or some setting somewhere got FUBAR'd? If you can do everything from the command line and still want to use the web-interface thats fine... but everybody I know that can do everything from the command line does it that way all the time. Also, if you are going to be running a server then you might want to look into FreeBSD... trust me, its well worth it to make the change!
