Aloha,
first off this has been a great forum to waste my days away glad I found it.

gotten some great info and insights to WEBhosting.

My topic thought was it is funny I see some people saying we do webdesign and they have no portfolio and or working clients.
scarry stuff
and then ya see some people claiming to do it all hosting design and everyting
well there seems to be far and few inbetween of these types and when ya look closer the big ones have some designers programers etc...

I am very curious what people are doing with there work
do you have programers and designers or is one person doing it all hosting design programing ??
just curious as my thoughts the one person wonders are over to make good money in all trades
there are a few who can do well sticking to one trade
Hosting
or
design
or programing ??

thoughts on this
not trying to start a war with any one nor step on toes
just maybe trying to get some thoughts going here on some people newer to the webdev world
that maybe they should try to find a niche and focus on it ???

I know I am trying to learn more about ASP
(I do some coldfusion)
can do basic DB stuff but would find doing the ebay site out of my field :0
but can handle some large scale stuff without a problem

We have 2 main people in our co I do all the backend stuff and some front end while the other does more layout graphics etc...
I have a background in Biz as well as computers my College was
computers, Law, Biz,Marketing
I was also a trainer for HP

if we have a big programing job I will hire a programer to help
I am not in the Hosting biz yet and will only want to host my clients.

I can not type well so I have some one go over my work ;)

I am starting a new project which will involve a Editor (I allready have) myself and my one other.(just to give you ideas of how I think on projects ??

anyway hope this gets some responses curious to see how others work.

Just the thought of doing all of the above gives me a headache. I have a hard enough time focusing on just hosting. :)

I probably wouldn't consider adding programming/design to my list of services unless I had some highly skilled webmasters/programmers who wanted me to sponsor them (list their contact information on my website)

I do solely web designing for clients and so far I am getting good business with less problems.

Webhosting??? ... not at the moment, too much work and very bad returns on investments.

Bye-Bye......

My little strategy is to get my hands into everything but not speciallized.
I like to create sites and designing them and I would like to know more programming because then I would be able to design better sites. But I believe you`ll have to be really good to make a living of it, so now I`m a reseller and moving to a dedicated when I think the time has come. I will do all the support for my clients as it`s not very hard as long as the problem isn`t very extensive, then I`ll just rent help from my hosting provider. To learn more scripting I`m planning to work for free and work together with some of my clients if they want to develop a script.

Many of you may think "amature" and you wouldn`t go near my business, but it`s not hard to cater the hosting clients at all. We have great books in our stores and general information about everything on the net which we can study and I think my knowledge is growing really fast. My idea is just to know half about most things and buy service if I need something I can`t do by my own.

Hosting is just a part of what I want to do on the net, and I feel it`s the best start to get a foothold on the net so I evetually can live of it, not get rich but have something creative and fun as my job.
