View Full Version : SitePanel - what do you think?
Morgan Harvey 01-16-2003, 02:20 PM Just wanted to know what everyone thinks of myIThost SitePanel a support and information panel for web hosting companies and their clients.
For a demo of the new SitePanel admin panel go to : http://myithost.net/dev/sitepanel/admin/
username: admindemo
password: password
If you wish to demo the user panel, simply create a new user in the admin panel and access http://myithost.net/dev/sitepanel/ with the new user's username and password.
The next major release (2.x.x) will have a support ticket system as well.
Anyway, I'd appreciate your comments.
Samuel 01-16-2003, 02:36 PM Unreadable fonts and such.
When its more user friendly report back please.
Morgan Harvey 01-16-2003, 02:40 PM I haven't noticed any fonts in the panel which I would say are 'unreadable', could you possibly elaborate on that for me please?
Thanks anyway.
Samuel 01-16-2003, 02:43 PM Size, too small, too much contrasting between the bg and the font color, combine those two elements and it's hard to read (I have 3 monitors here that are three different sizes.
DJiMPaCT 01-16-2003, 02:46 PM What does it do anyways? I don't really get it... Just stores peoples emails?
Morgan Harvey 01-16-2003, 02:49 PM OK, I appreciate your comment, will work on that for the next version. Did you try out the actual client-level of SitePanel? You might find the 'SlickBlue' skin a little easier on the eye.

No, it does quite a bit more than that. I think you may have missed the whole client-level of SitePanel. Basically it provides a source of information for clients, including information about their account, the parent host's network, etc.
I have to admit that it is a little basic at the moment, but the framework is there for us to add a support ticketing system etc to it.
Samuel 01-16-2003, 02:53 PM I can't try it, unless I can see it.
From your vantage point it's very usable, but from mine it isn't.
I logged in expecting to see a panel of some sorts but stopped when I coulnd't read it all too well.
Morgan Harvey 01-16-2003, 03:07 PM OK, I've changed the colour scheme somewhat, could you let me know if that is easier for you to see?
Thanks in advance.
Samuel 01-16-2003, 03:15 PM Much better! checking it out now.
Samuel 01-16-2003, 03:18 PM Very nice, it was easy to go through.
If I may ask, is it possible to add the ability to have two different levels of users? or even 5?
Shared, Resellers, Dedicated, Domains, All
Reason I ask is that you could then broadcast the "All e-mail" to everyone, yet only send specific information to just your resellers (About a new WHM skin or change etc).
Maybe even level specific news?
Morgan Harvey 01-16-2003, 03:22 PM Excellent idea, thanks. Will add that to the next version.
xerocity.com 01-16-2003, 03:25 PM Interesting system ;)
Personally I don't have any problem with the font. :D
I do see potential for this to become a hosting control panel and I'm not trying to be mean but overall I don't see potential for anything else. I don't exactly see what you are trying to develop, it seems kind of like a control panel, but it doesn't really do anything.
At it's current state I don't think that it would be of benefit to anyone except for those who manually do all things for their clients (add email addresses, subdomains, etc.).
I does kind of seem like you are trying to create a souped-up help desk though.
A little more information from you describing exactly what you are trying to accomplish would help us in determining what we think of it.
Good luck with your myIThost SitePanel.
It seems that some got some posts in while I was reviewing :D
Samuel 01-16-2003, 03:35 PM The fonts have changed I think since you saw it, but none the less I think it has more potential.
An information center with server reports is something we use several custom apps for that have been developed over time but if they could be combined into one signup, informational dispersal and support database it would be valuable.
Morgan Harvey 01-16-2003, 03:37 PM To be honest I'm not sure I really have the knowledge required (or the time) to make this into a full hosting control panel. I will definately be adding a ticketing system to it fairly soon. The purpose of SitePanel is simply to provide a way for hosts the communicate with their clients and vice-versa. It has a few features in the client-level which our own clients have found useful (especially the ability to check the status of devices on the server and then being able to report a problem wo support about it). I think it will be a more useful program once I have added the afformentioned ticket support system.
Anyway, thanks for your comments guys, much obliged.
Samuel 01-16-2003, 03:40 PM Morgan, would you be interested in connecting with a couple of our programmers and maybe make it able to make accounts within lets say whm/cpanel?

Actually, it's funny you should mention that, I had considered adding a few extra features in the admin section such as 'create account in WHM' and 'terminate account in WHM'.
After all, WHM does provide a remote access key.
Samuel 01-16-2003, 03:53 PM Why yes it does =)
Morgan Harvey 01-16-2003, 03:58 PM Perhaps another feature for version 1.3. :)
tsk tsk... errors..

Morgan Harvey 01-16-2003, 06:05 PM Ooops, sorry about that (was fiddling about with some of the code  ) should work fine now. :D
It is small, but cool...goes good with your site..I would move it down some tho.

Thanks, I'm glad you think so. :)
Just out of interest, what do you mean by 'I would move it down some tho.'?
rusko 01-17-2003, 01:05 AM this definitely has potential. there are a few control panels for account maintenance (all of them crappy).
however, a good complete crm solution is lacking. this may evolve into such a solution.
cheers,
paul

Thanks for the kind words Paul, I'm glad you see it's potential. I will post back once I've added some more features.
