how much faster is a PIII 700 compare to raq4? I am running heavy CGI scripts and they are over loading the raq3 128ram. Would a raq4 do the job or I have to get a PIII 700?

WTFHosting 05-08-2001, 01:29 AM A RaQ4 has a 450mhz processor, opposed to the 300mhz of the RaQ3. However since you are running heavy CGI there's no telling the RaQ4 would be sufficient. I would personally go with the PIII 700mhz which will be considerably faster. Although there are other factors to think about such as management of a non-cobalt server. But for the sound of your needs the PIII 700mhz will suit you a lot better. eva2000 05-08-2001, 01:33 AM get the P3 700, raq4s are AMD 450mhz (SH)Saeed 05-08-2001, 02:31 AM Kickster, Check out Version12.net as well for a dedicated P3. Here is comments from allending who signed up with them a couple of weeks ago: http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?threadid=10452 I'm considering them myself. kickster 05-08-2001, 09:20 AM V12 does not have any dedicated at this time. What type of control panel they use? c0bra 05-08-2001, 09:35 AM They install Ensim on their servers. But dont expect to be able to use it. You can read my version12 experience in this thread: http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?threadid=10452 (SH)Saeed 05-08-2001, 09:52 AM Originally posted by kickster V12 does not have any dedicated at this time. What type of control panel they use? I know, but they were offering P3 700 with 256mb for $150/month and no setup fee. If you rather get a RaQ4 though, then check out RackShack.net. They offer it for $99/month with 150GB transfer, but they have a $250 setup fee!!!! kickster 05-08-2001, 10:03 AM $250 set up fee is just too much. If I decide to leave then I have lost a lot. by the way version 12 dedicated is a celeron but still much faster than a AMD 400 allending 05-08-2001, 11:50 AM Kicker, my dedicated at version12 is a P3 : :) (SH)Saeed 05-08-2001, 12:13 PM Yupp, those are real P3s.. It's the RaQs that are using Celeron. MSW 05-08-2001, 12:44 PM I thought RaQs use AMD. allending 05-08-2001, 12:49 PM Im pretty sure raqs use AMD ......... but when i asked rackshack in their chatroom, the salesperson said it uses a celeron 500 ........ :homer: c0bra 05-08-2001, 12:51 PM Originally posted by WeinBar I thought RaQs use AMD. The old RAQs certainly do. Apparently the new XTRs use Intel chips? (SH)Saeed 05-08-2001, 01:04 PM On their data sheet it says "450Mhz Intel compatible processor". Would that be AMD or Celeron? http://www.cobalt.com/products/pdfs/datasheet.cacheraq4.pdf allending 05-08-2001, 01:12 PM Raq4's are most definitely AMD's :) im pretty sure about that. MSW 05-08-2001, 01:14 PM Originally posted by zolbian On their data sheet it says "450Mhz Intel compatible processor". Would that be AMD or Celeron? Well Intel makes the Celeron, so I don't think that it would be defined as Intel compatible. So it would (should) mean AMD (SH)Saeed 05-08-2001, 01:14 PM What about RaQ3.. I've heard those are Celeron 300!? (SH)Saeed 05-08-2001, 01:15 PM Originally posted by WeinBar Well Intel makes the Celeron, so I don't think that it would be defined as Intel compatible. So it would (should) mean AMD Yeah, I got that impression as well. But just to make sure I just sent an email to their sales. I will post the reply here. c0bra 05-08-2001, 01:21 PM RAQ3 and 4s are most definitely shipped with AMD processors. The newer RAQ XTRs are shipped with genuine Intel Pentium III processors. (733mhz and 933mhz) c0bra 05-08-2001, 01:22 PM Originally posted by zolbian What about RaQ3.. I've heard those are Celeron 300!? The RAQ3s have AMD K6 300Mhz chips in them. avara 05-08-2001, 06:17 PM Seeing as it's pretty common knowledge that the RaQ 3 and 4 both use AMD processors, I wonder where a lot of people suddenly "heard" that they use Intel Celeron processors... |
