View Full Version : Worldpay: AVS and CVV only on UK cards?

My searches of this forum have shown mostly very favourable recommendations for Worldpay.

Although I haven't yet signed up with them, I have been reading their support pages where they mention that AVS and CVV is only available for UK-issued cards:

http://support.worldpay.com/fraud/body.html#avs

This strikes me as rather concerning for all their wonderful claims of fraud screening. Not having that available for US cards worries me.

Are my fears justified? I'm expecting at least 70% of my customers to be U.S.-based, and my business is based in Australia.

Thanks.

Well, CVV-verification works for cards issued in the US and some European countries as well.

Furthermore they check each card whether it is issued in the same country as stated by the shopper.

Honestly though AVS checks don't prevent fraudulent orders from happening because if a stolen card is used, the thief often knows the exact address details as well so the AVS checks would be useless.

Hmm. Are you sure about CVV? That same page seems to state that CVV is also only for UK issued cards.

I agree with what you say about AVS checks, but every little helps.

CVV appears on all new credit card worldwide now I believe, it's an international standard and like the card number can be checked by any merchant as it is in the Mastercard/Visa/Amex database and not the issuing banks database like AVS data is.

I like 2checkout.com fraud checks, worldpay should have similar methods.

Hi - when I looked at the logs after the last fraudulent order I had the fraudster came straight from a search engine where part of the search criteria was 'pay at worldpay' - so he/they actually targeted companies that use WorldPay - which makes me wonder whether Worldpays anti fraud measures are less than other companies ???
