Whats wrong with RAckshack?

Raqshack $250 setup fee is way too much. I would have considered them if there was no set up fee. I am willing to use 50 GB rather than 150 but no setup fee.

give them an email and explain the situation and how a setup fee is not good.
maybe see if you could pay alittle extra a month or see if they would loose the bw to cut it

you get nothing unless u ask :)

Cheers

I just spoke to their support group. The answer NO. They will not reduce the setup fee.
I understand their business depends on the set up fee.

My feelings on rackshack.....they charge entirely too much for the setup fee and then hope that you cancel within a month or two and then resell the same server with the big setup fee to some other sap, thereby paying off the server in a few months.
Look at someone like <<EDIT>>, a reputable company that I was told waives all setup fees on the RaQ's......the reason, the RaQ's are simple to setup and require little maintenance...charge an honest price, hey we all have to make money, but they are not making any money for over a year on $99 a month

You have to remember, though, that someone has to actually pay for the server. It's hard enough making money selling 150GB of bandwidth for $99, but you also have to pay out ~$1000 for the machine. That cost needs to be covered somehow.

Most of the time our setup fees just help ease the cost of the hardware (it doesn't even come close to covering it) until we eventually make it back in monthly fees. It's not just a way to make a quick buck, usually. :)

It all depends, alot of companies lease or finance the racks over a period of one year, paying anywhere from 89 to 150 a month per unit depending upon there credit. So they do make some money on it.

I was thinking about going with them, but then I calculated and it will be about $500 for the first month. That is just way to much for a student.

But if you're paying $90-$150 for the hardware and charging the customer $99-$150 a month, you're barely breaking even on the hardware. That doesn't even begin to account for the bandwidth expenses.

The only way to do it is if you're doing it in large volume. But for most companies it doesn't make economic sense to try to do it for the possible $10 a month you'd make.
