http://www.serveroutsource.net/

you get 100 GB transfer for 49 $ but i wouldn't count on much support for 49 $, and watch out each OS restore costs you 50 $ so if you are newbie to ded-hosting stay away it could cost you a lot

I got one of those yesterday and it seems like a nice, clean, solid install. I've been with a couple of providers and that wasn't always the case.

But as Angel said, you have to know what you're doing. And they let you know in their welcome email. It's unmanaged, so the only support issue they'll deal with is connectivity issues (they say it much better than that, but that's basically that).

But for that price, that's about all you're going to get anywhere. Don't expect support. You should look into either Virtual Servers or Reseller solutions. You could get a very nice reseller package for this price or less.

Hey,

I am more than satisfied with the machine I have with ServerOutsource.net -- actually, I love it. The value for the money is amazing.

Although, I tried accessing their page all weekend and wasn't able to (it seems fine now though). It scares me when I can't access it for extended periods of time ... it makes me think that the company's going out of business or something. I'm sure that's not the case though. Or actually, maybe it was just me not being able to access it.

Either way, their boxes rock!

americanwebhost.com also have a nice redhat package similar to Serveroutsource. I've never tried them (AWH) but came very close to.

ServerOutsources' page worked ok this weekend for me. And I've just started playing with the server, and speed is fine too.

nocster had some low spec servers in a sale a little while back - might be worth an email.

United Colo might be an option for a low end, low bandwidth server. For $49 a month you can get a 1.2Ghz duron, with 100GB of transfer. I have read in numerous places on here that united colo had bad downtime problems and that their network wasnt as good as some other hosts. I took a chance and i have 3 servers with them, and they fit my needs quite well.

I was under the impression that they merely listed those on their webpage, but haven't had stock since their original openings as it was merely their "claim to fame", not something that was actively offered/reasonably available.

I absolutely hate it when companies do things like that...

The term is "bait and switch" and i cant stand it, it's the only reason i just left our local hardware vendor, their lowest priced items (xp1700+'s, celerons, cheaper cases, etc.) were *always* out of stock, they just used it to get you into the store.
