What is considered a fast..and what is considered a slow connection???
I've tested numerous Pings..
and well.. most end up with an average in the 10ths..
But what if the time is like 45ms.. is that already slow?
Hope to get a fast answer!! Thanks

This depends completely on what type of connection *you* are using.

If you're on a 56k dial-up modem, then times in the 200-300ms are quite normal.

If you're on a DSL or T1, then times <100ms are to be expected.

If your running your pings off a server connected via network to a T3 (i.e. using a service like tracert.com or one of the others), then <50-60ms are to be expected.

A traceroute is normally a much better indicator of performance than a ping. A ping will show you only the round-trip time, without indicating where the slowness is actually occuring. A traceroute will show you all of the "hops" between you and the web site - that way you can see if the problem is in a backbone or even your own ISP rather than at the web host hosting the site (which is often the case).

Thanks Jason!!

So how would it be with communitech.net??

I am sorry if I am causing problems but traceroute and things like that are just not my area!! I hope somebody can give me an answer to that.

PS: One last thing..even though it's not about hosting. Does anybody know a program that let's you save real video and smil files back to your harddrive??) Thanks already in advance!
