Hi!
Can anyone recommend a good packet shaping / bandwidth restriction program??
We need to restrict bandwidth to servers on our network and because we're using Cisco 1900 series switches, we can only do it / switch and not / port!
Solutions for NT and Linux would be helpful.....
Cheers for any replies!

I think you mean *traffic* shaping, not packet shaping. ;)
My personal preference is for IPFW+Dummynet. That said, IIRC that is only available for BSD systems so it may not satisfy your requrements.

i'd recommend the extreme networks full layer-3 summit series switches.
you have the ability to do both ingress and egress rate limiting (wire speed).
pretty sweet stuff.

I've heard a lot good thing about extreme networks products, but haven't got chance to try it. I think foundry BigIron would do the same thing ..
But from my experience, Shasta is really good .. it's part of Nortel now ..since Nortel bought companies left and right last year.. hehehe.
It does QoS, Traffic Shaping, firewall through a built-in checkpoint firewall, also a virtual router that uses Cisco IOS. Really cool box.

Does anyone have any experience with Emerging Technologies Bandwidth Manager?
the site is www.etinc.com
Just wondering what the pitfalls are, what sort of limitations there would be ( number of servers controllable by 1 box )
Cheers,
