For many sites I run security, and have with vBulletin and UBB have always hidden IP's to users, but here they are displayed publicly.

This could open up your users to script kiddies that have little nukers...

Just a suggestion....

Currently half of the IPs on the forum aren't even correct anyway (a problem with vB + the DB which we're looking at).

The public display of IPs was a conscious decision made in the best interests of the forum. When someone signs up they are made aware that IPs are public; if they disagree with this notion they are made aware they shouldn't sign up if they are concerned about this aspect.

There are other places (such as IRC channels, Java chats, etc.) where IPs can be easily discovered, so forums aren't alone ;)

I recommend to all forum members that if they don't have a firewall in place, use ZoneAlarm (http://www.zonealarm.com) or one of the other firewall products out there.
