Ok, to me this is borderline spam.

Recently my company registered 50 domain names for an upcoming national expansion. Well, luckily I wasn't available at the time, but when I came home this evening I had a voice mail from a young man at verio.com. They were like, "Hi, I see you have registered x*********** and was wondering what you plan on doing with this domain. If verio.com can do anything for you give us a call and we can get this domain running as soon as possible".

Or something to that effect. Anyway, what boggles me is why they chose just one domain name out of 50 which were all equally different. And second of all, who is it their business to question me about my intentions? I didn't register the name through them, so why should they care?

Needless to say I did not return his call as I don't need their services nor do I want to just tell them why I registered a domain name  I get enough telemarketers, I don't need hosting companies to check up on me when I register a domain name and spam me! :fork:

Anyone else have this happen to them? I swear if they call me again about any other domains, I will have to rip them a new one.

I've received junk mail in the past from various hosting companies when I would buy a domain so the fact they're telemarketing now doesn't surprise me. I wish ICANN would allow unlisted WHOIS data like having an unlisted phone number to stop the junk mail, spam, and telemarketing from info obtained from the WHOIS db. GoDaddy has private reg now but they own the domain and why add another 10 bucks to your registration fee. There is a pretty good thread over in the domain forum about privacy and being bothered by companies who mine the WHOIS db.

Yep, what a pain you can't even do simple tasks online with real information without companies trying to solicit you for business. I just hope they don't call me concerning every domain name I register now, if they do they have something coming

why let something so petty bother you so much , i mean , if someone calls me , and im not interested in what they are saying, i simply hangup on them . Just like when i get spam , i delete it . I mean , it may be annoying ...but no more annoying then the crap i get in my snail mail box , and i dont see anyone complaining about that . Why ? Because people have come to terms realizing , there is nothing they can do about it . They called you once...big deal.. when you start getting more then one call , thats when you get pissed ;)

Well like I said, it was one call out of 50. But why would they call me about just one? So I'm assuming they are going to continue calling me regarding at least some of the others. Which is when I'll get pissed.

Right now, yeah, its annoying and I didn't return their call. But if they make it practice to start calling for each domain I register... not even through them, well then I'm going to really start getting pissed.

Verio and Earthlink do this with newly registered domains that relate somehow to webhosting or networking. I register hosting domains all the time, so I'm pretty well acquainted with the same poor schlubs who call me up all the time...lol

Well, about 6 months ago I was going through eBay and I came upon a pretty cool name. sexpods.com. I bought it for $9 and the seller didn't charge me any transfer fees like most of those asses do. Anyways, after I paid for it, I realized I didn't have any idea what to do with it. So it just sat there. 2 weeks after having bought it, some company from Idaho or something calls me up, and inquires about the domain name. I, being the curious type, call back asking what he wanted to know. Turns out his company wanted the name, and asked how much. I said $200 and they agreed :D In total, they paid around $250 with the escrow charges

just goes to show you, sometimes it's good to respond.
