After having problems with them I decided to look into their business and they have a pretty poor relationship in dealing with customers..

I do not deal with the BBB either, even though I have had no complaints. People feel that the BBB is a government agency, when in fact it is not, so the accuracy of all of these statistics are not always going to be correct.

Have you personally used these companies? I see no reason for you to be bashing the way that they do business unless you have personal experience with them.

Just my two cents,

Mike

The BBB is a joke. They have no authority or government mandate.

Interland probably hosts a million sites. not only that, their support is definately geared to the mid-user.

They have recently merged with hostpro. If you get a vserver, or whatever they call it now, its an advanced system where your pretty much on your own.

I would consider the amount of complaints to be rather small if a company the size of interland has only 189 complaints.

Anyway, the BBB is simply a consimer advocant agency run by consumers. Kinda like the same thing when some spammer gets shut off by his host provider and then comes here to say what a lousy host he had that won't give him his money back.

then what customer advocacy agency would you recommend? if thats all there is then its all there is, you cant really call it a joke unless you have something better to recommend. My personal opinion is i would sooner trust an independant agency than a government one any day of the week have you ever known a government employee that actually gives a crap about their job?

It does not matter what the BBB says or does..
What you do is use thiis as a reference..

What this complaint states to me is the following

They do not respond to complaints..
In this case.. they have a extremely bad reputation of ignoring they're problemsr ather then dealing with them

A complaint to the BBB is no big thing really.

A UNRESPONDED TO COMPLAINT IS A TELL TALE SIGN
the company is not very good at caring for their customers.
You want your company you use not to care about you?

As you can see they do not respond to their complaints.

A SIMPLE RESPONSE OF ANY KIND CLOSES THE BBB CASE

The BBB 's still useful in terms of finding companies info, how they hide it and how they truly do take theyre business serious..
and theyre services.

In this case.. These 2 companies care about 1 thing only
making money. and as much as they can from you.

They dont care about the services to you.
They provide it.. but as soon as there's a problem
you can bet they can care less about you.

Have fun with them.. I am long gone

I have one client who has one site on Interland (they picked it, not me) that's been there for almost 3 years now, and while I find their pricing to be a tad expensive, I do find that they do provide reliable service for the most part (particularly during peaks/spikes in the company's business, due the cyclical nature of it).

Another thing that should be noted about those complaints is that Interland resolved or at least made a good faith effort to resolve all of them (which does imply a degree of seriousness in resolving customer issues). In order for them to make a good faith effort, they have to at least respond to the complaints (which, according to the statistics posted above, they appear to have done).

I do find the number to be high; but what isn't clear is whether or not Interland inherited any portion of that number from any of the hosts they have bought out. As someone else also pointed out, they are a large and ever-expanding host as well, so naturally they are going to have a larger number of complaints than most hosts. It's like Microsoft vs. Bob's Software Company in Craters of the Moon, Idaho. Who's going to have more complaints? Microsoft, naturally. But does that imply that Bob's Software Company is the better company? No.

Another thing not taken into account is the nature of the complaint and how serious it was. If it was just someone ranting and raving about how poorly they were treated without citing specific examples, the host apologized, and the apology was not accepted, that situation is still considered unresolved (although a good faith effort was made to resolve it). There are some people you just can't please. I would take this more seriously if there were complaints Interland didn't make an effort to resolve, which doesn't appear to be the case.

Another thing I've noticed is that you haven't provided a reason why you personally are upset with Interland. Your citing of the BBB only indicates that other people have been in the past. What are your issues with the company? (And not just "they have poor service". This is a subjective statement and therefore carries very little weight in itself.)

As others have pointed out, the BBB is the only customer advocacy group of its kind. Unfortunately, this tends to imply to some people that they are the preeminent authority on customer service issues, which is not the case. They are merely intended to act as an ombudsman and statistical provider.

Again, I don't know what your specific issue is with Interland but as I stated earlier, my one client has used them. While they're not my first choice as a host, they have provided a reasonable level of service and support (I was even able to call them Christmas Day when I was having a problem with their FTP server, when no one in their right mind would have been working...then again, why was I? Ah well.)

BBB is a total joke.

Well, first you have to understand what the BBB is, and the nature of how they report things on their web site. You also have to understand that Interland was (and probably still is) the largest web hosting company in the U.S. (maybe beyond that, you can check that).

It would be unreasonable to think that the largest company would have no complaints, and likewise, unreasonable to assume that they would have all complaints resolved to the satisfaction of the customer and to the BBB, which is what the BBB reports.

Now if you have a problem with this company, that's one thing. it is entirely different to post a report concerning such a large company, about complaints you have no knowledge of.

If you have a complaint/experience, feel free to post about it.
