fasthosts are very lousy with anything they try do. It's them big annoying ads that everyone falls for.

Totally agree, the ads are all nice and glossy and professional looking, i think they should spend money on thier hosting and not thier stupid ads, ive had a technical problem (which i posted in the technical questions forum on this site) for ages and trying to call them is useless cos thier staff are thick as sh*&, e-mails receive no replys or just "the problem will be fixed"

crap

Keep away from them

I had a reseller account with them, and back in November one of their raid5 disks failed and because they hadn't configured it properly the other drives didn't have data on it - so all 20 domains were trashed.

Useless

Its the same old story day in day out with FH....but like you say, people always fall for the glossy ads in .NET or wherever!!

Unfortunately it seems the majority of the readership of these magazines dont check up before signing up....if you can afford 10 nice ads / month you must be good ;))

I'll maybe stick a couple of forum links at the bottom of our ad next time! lol

I have to disagree, I have just got a fasthosts Matrix Linux server and it is fantastic.
Great price (£89 pm) and it is super fast.

The control panel looks good and is easy to use, and provides a load of features.

I've made a bunch of customisations aswell, inlcuding majordomo, IMP and mySQL upgrade.

My only complaint is one the tech support side, they did not reply when I sent them a question about a rather complex issue, but I found my answer on the web anyway.

Well, so long as you're happy with 10gb for £89....that's alright then.

Personally I went for something a bit more powerful(PIII-700,256mb,20gb and 115gb bandwidth) for less money.

Hope you have a pleasant experience with Fast Hosts. I certainly have not.

Rich

*EDIT* - I think I've just worked out why Fast Hosts have so much downtime...

With your own dedicated server you can host thousands of domain names and take full control over your hosting environment. Dedicated entirely to you, a Matrix Dedicated Server from Fasthosts is the ultimate hosting solution.

Since when can you host thousands of domains on one server? Coupled with the 10gb of bandwidth they give, I think after the 10gb is reached they shut down the sites on that server. Hence the 99.9% downtime guarantee.

So, tell me where did you get that deal then??

BTW is http://www.inspa.net/ hosted on that server because it just produced a DNS error for me - perhaps the server is down ? or maybe it's just me.

I also like fasthosts becaue they are located in the UK, which is where I am, which makes it faster.

Inspa.net should be resolving soon. It should have been done yesterday, but UKReg screwed me around(UKReg is part of Fast Hosts :)).

The server is located in America, and was a personal deal by a friend.

I'm also in the UK. We run a gaming site too which is hosted on a WebFusion reseller account. We've experienced very little downtime over the last 6 months, but around 2 hours over the last 3 days which is quite abnormal.

When it was hosted through a Fast Hosts reseller, we had nothing but problems with downtime, slow FTP, CGI timeouts, dead stats, everything.

I hope they are more reliable with their dedicated servers than their shared servers.

They've thrown out loads of resellers recently for various reasons that they couldn't justify.. Funny enough most of these resellers had just paid for the next year's hosting..

A company to admire for the PR. Have to hand it to them, they have managed to sell a extremely poor all round service really well!!

UKReg hasn't been too much hassle, certainly in comparison. Just never ask anything complex. Infact just don't ask anything.. If you can't click to do something on their site then they can't do it..

One thing that worries me is that punters are going to fall for the dedicated side.. Looking on their site they think that 256MB win2K server is enough for 2500 sites.. I sometimes ponder over what all the reseller accounts were built upon..
